The Go-Manche experiment...need advice
I am building a hot rod comanche to daily drive and im in the final stages of my build. I have a few questions that hopefully you stroker gurus could help me out with. i am no stranger to custom builds as i run a Jeep and SUV upgrade shop, but this is my first stroker. I lucked up and got a good deal on a 5k mile used 4.7 on the cheap.
I started with a 88 MJ SB with a TBI 2.5 and a 4 speed manual. i stripped all that junk out and transplanted all the wiring from a 94 XJ and converted to an AW4 auto. I am making F1 paddle shifters for it curtesy of AW4shifting.com.
I am ready to drop in the new engine and I am having trouble choosing the the right final parts. Please help me spend the money in the right place first.
as far as the motor here is what i have so far:
94 block decked .010 and bored .060
Speed Pro H825CP pistons 15cc dish
94 head casting #7120 new valves, 3 angle valve job, new springs unknown brand
comp cams 68-231-4 206/214 degree cam
2000 intake
short rods im assuming, i have not yet pulled the pan yet to verify rods and crank
my questions are about the injectors sizing and the T/B size as well as the header and P/S pump bracketry.
I have been lurking here for some time and have not found my exact answers yet. which injector should i be running and where is the cheapest/best place to get them. I was leaning towards the 24lb from 5.0motorsport or junkyard jewels that i pull.
I am not sure if a 62mm T/B is big enough, i chatted with Benny at Hesco and that is what he recomenned but surely there is a cheaper alternative.
next i am reading that a adfteermaret header will still have to be modified? is there a specific header that works the best. i am leaning towards the Borla but its soooo axpensive. Then i read about the split design working better????
last question is a about the mods needed for the P/S pump bracketry to work with the 2000 intake. i have looked for pictures here and did not find any, Hesco recomended io source a 99= WJ facotry brackets and pump/resivoir assembly. Is there any other vehicles this would work from like a 2000 XJ? or is there a write up ab out the custom mods dome to reuse the 94 assembly?
Any light you guys can shed on my build would be greatly appreciated.
thx, Greg

sorry about the typos, i have fat little tootsie roll like fingers.
my computer is having a spas attack right now, causing the screen to scroll during a reply, sorry.
I will post up pice and my total cost spreadsheet next week.
we call it the 3x3x3x3 build. Its a slammed, murdered out MJ on 22s 2wd of course.
the "goal" is to be under $3000.00/under 3000lbs curb weight, 300hp at the wheels (maybe optimistic) and 30 MPG.
I am putting an 8.8 from an explorer and swapping out the 3.73 for a highway gear, only after i have had time to play with the 3.73s gears.

Ford Racing 24lb injectors and a 62mm TB would do fine on an OBD1-controlled stroker. Check in ebay for TB's.
The '94 PS pump bracket would need major modification to fit on the '00+ intake so I suggest you do what I did and source the PS pump and bracket from a junkyard '97-'01 XJ or '96-'04 TJ.

Re: The Go-Manche experiment...need advice
I am running a bored throttle body. I payed a guy on ebay, and sent him my TB. He bored it and sent it back. I think it cost around $65.00. I am also running 24# ford injectors. My stroker is in a 2003 TJ, OBDII. The fuel pressure is higher than the OBDI. I read somewhere that the 24# injectors with 49 fuel PSI would be more like 27# injectors. But my stroker runs fine. I'm guessing the stock computer is doing its job and keeping the fuel trims where they need to be.

thankx, Chero
that was the info i needed on the PS stuff. I thought XJ/TJ stuff might work. They are readily available to me.

here is the start of my total project cost spreadsheet on this whole project. including all costs associated with the truck.
some of the upgrades were donated by some of our vendors at no cost to me, thats why you will see zero costs lines.

Re: The Go-Manche experiment...need advice
I used a 96 XJ PS pump and bracketry with my 2000 intake, I just put 1 washer on each bolt between the pump and the intake to space it out the correct distance. I run the borla split headerheat wrapped then 2- 2" pipes into a 3" pipe back to a 50 series flowmaster and 2.5" out the back, I think it sounds pretty sweet. Which feul rail are you going to use? The 95 and older has a built in fuel pressure regulator at 39 psi, 96 and newer uses a non return system that is regulated in the tank. I run a newer style fuel rail with an adjustable FPR with a return to keep the in tank fuel pump cool. I run 24lb injectors with a 62mm aftermarket TB and at WOT I run 11.8-12.3 A/F ratio above 3800 rpm, I'm thinking of going to a 64mm.
I hope you have better luck with the AW4 than I'm having. IMO: its not enough trans for a stroker, but results and opinions may vary.

You shoul dbe fine with 24lbs on that PCM. If you get some from a salvage yard considering sending them off for cleaning.1BADMUDR wrote: I was leaning towards the 24lb from 5.0motorsport or junkyard jewels that i pull.
62mm is fine. http://www.strokedjeep.com has some good prices and good work.I am not sure if a 62mm T/B is big enough, i chatted with Benny at Hesco and that is what he recomenned but surely there is a cheaper alternative.

Re: The Go-Manche experiment...need advice
So if i am understanding you correctly, in order to run the adj. FPR i had planned to use i need to have a 96 or newer rail. so the 94 rail is not going to cut it?YJason wrote: Which feul rail are you going to use? sounds like i need to pick up another donor rig.....i have my eye on a 97xj with a blown motor for 300. sounds like the rail and the power steering as well as the front sheetmetal is in order. hmm maybe the dash too!

I guess you could plug the return line on the older fuel rail.

Re: The Go-Manche experiment...need advice
I really dont see the advantage to using the newer rail then adding a FPR and a return.
I am going to stick with my 94 rail and add an adj. FPR to it and achieve the same results easier/cheaper.
unless I am missing something......
