how fast are yall's strokers?

Post by billy_bob »

I'm in the process of building my stoker and i'm curious to know how much faster is the stroker than the 4.0L, granted different combination do different things. I do plenty of haulen ass in my 4.0 Cherokee and a massive torque upgrade sounds like it would be fun. With a basic (to start with) stroker 4.7, and standard size tires how much haulen ass can i do?
90 block, 94 7120 head and rods, IC944 .060 21cc, comp 68-239-4 and of course the 258 crank. my first full build and i did pretty damn good

The amount of Haulin ass possible depends on the size of the ass in question.

While it won't hang with my Stang, it leaves folks in the rearview on the stoplight grandprix when need be. It's such a different feel anyway. My Stang has 3.27 rearend gears vs 4.11s in the TJ. It does "get up" when needed and impressively. I don't think you'll be let down at all. My problem is that I've never driven any other Jeep and I drove this Tj the first time when I installed the Stroker so I don't have a reference

I've never raced, but the butt dyno is extremely satisfied. It'll spin a pair of 265/75-16 AT's in second gear, lift the left front tire way high up off the ground in a left turn, and my mileage went from 14 to 16.5 mpg (with cam swap). The cruise control can pull the 8% grade near my house in 5th gear.
I NEED MORE TORQUE!

I got 500 ft/lbs and 450HP out of my 4.0 turbo.
Went 7.25 @ 100.3 in the 1/8 before it broke a piston ring land.
Going back with hyper pistons and lowering the boost for now.

Let me get a trans brake in it so I can get my hairdryer up to speed....Then we will see :smack:

But you are correct, it is a turd.

I would rather see you run without a brake. You know, just to save you money. ;)

My XJ which is cammed for low torque did a low 15 second quarter, without burnout (wouldn't have helped anyway) neutral dropping at only 2000 RPM's. with an Auto (which coincidentally or not needs replacing now), LSD's front and rear, 3.5" lift 33/12.5/R15 tires (BFG AT KO's) 4.56 gears, 3900lbs with me and a tank of gas... It falls on its face around 4500 RPM's due to the cam being a total RV and towing grind from Clifford. I pretty much did it on a lark, but I'd done previous runs with a G-tech RR with similar numbers (mid to low 15's)

low 15 seconds in a heavy lifted XJ is pretty good IMO and I'm 100% positive I'm making 15 or 20 hp less than Dino because he has a factory Cam and I have the RV cam and his manual trans to my AW4. I'd probably leave on him due to the lower RPM torque peak, and the steep gears and tall tires, he would catch me and blow past on the other end.

To put it in perspective a perfectly bone stock fox body Mustang GT will run in the 14's a little faster than Dino. Which IMO says a lot for how much fun our Strokers are... I am a fan of Mustangs as well (I'm on my 5th)

Tom didn't you say you coasted to a sub 13 second quarter mile on those initial runs because you were shooting for 8th mile times? I guess "turd" is in the eye of the beholder, 12 second quarters without even trying with a hurt engine is impressive to me... That means you have one of the quickest I6's known around these parts and you had your foot off the gas doing it :) heheh.

So you would have cracked into the 11's if you had tweaked the gas a little after the 8th mile.... :slobber:
