stupid question.....what do you use for removing the plastigauge marks? tried a finger nail to remove from the bearing and ended up scratching the bearings

If you put a smear of oil on the bearings the Plastigauge peals right off.
You can get more power out of ANY engine!!!

I thought i heard somewhere that you can leave it on there it doesnt matter if you take it off or not...
However, i still took mine off ... just used a lint free cloth with brake cleaner and a few wipes later its gone. Ive also heard of using a old credit card.

You can leave it on. I usually take it off with some brake cleaner though.

No pics but.....
Got all 6 pistons in the hole... had a hell of a time with # 6, but that was due to my stupid ring compressor. Anyway, all rods were .0015, however the problem child #6 was a little too close to .001. Im not going to let it worry me to much though.
Got the cam in also. I first took my royal purple and spread it all over the cam bearings... Then I took the moly lube and squeezed a good amount on each lobe and journal. I also put a nice gob of it into my gloved hand. Then i spread that shit all over the cam with my hand. I mean its all over every inch of the cam. Afterwards, the cam was installed and looks very covered with moly lube
Timing set is also installed, and now im waiting to degree in the cam.

Ive been trying my best to degree my cam. I think im doing it right but this is my first time doing it so i just dont know for sure..
Here are the numbers i got from doing the # 1 intake lobe..
From what i gather from these figures the measured intake centerline is 107.79, and the measured duration 246.4.
The only specs i have for my cam (P4529229AC) are the following:
ADV Duration: 248/248
Duration @ .050: 202/202
Int. Centerline: 108
Lift: .440/.440
Overlap 32
So far everything seems pretty darn close... What do you guys think?
Since i dont have a real cam card for this cam, how in the heck do i know if its installed straight up or advanced / retarded??

To degree *any* cam, you actually measure the opening and closing of the valve, not just one side. This way it doesn't matter if you know the specs or not.

You are basically finding the degree the valve opens to 0.050, then spinning everything the other way to find the time the valve is closing at 0.050, and averaging that number. That will give you the lobe center.

hmmm.. I Didn't read the lunati how to all the way throguh. what you do, is find the 0.050" opening, then spin the engine until you find the 0.050" closing. record those two degree locations, and average them. thats your intake centerline.

So if i had the cam off a tooth advanced or retarded, then the intake centerline would change correct?
So if i had the cam installed 2 degrees advanced the intake centerline would change to 106.5

Did the exhaust lobe today...
Check the main post for the full spreadsheet. The only thing that is off from spec is the Duration at .050. The paper that came with my cam says its suppose to be 202, but i got 212 degrees. I wonder if its a misprint...

Also kind of weary about how many times i have turned it over finding TDC, and degreeing the cam...Anyone think its a problem?
