My machine shop put my pistons on backwards. I can't remember but I do belive the quench pad and the sqirt holes are on different sides when put together. Look at your head and see what side the quench pad is on. I think I read on here that the KB instructions are wrong.

If I take this pic for example :
Is the quench area on top of the pic or on bottom? I'm pretty sure it's on top, so that would mean my pistons are installed correctly on the rods. Squirt hole towards cam, quench pad away from cam.

Cam buying time is approaching fast. I know I said I've made my mind, but... still, I wonder. How much HP and torque loss am I looking at if I use a lower-lift OEM cam? This is the biggest dillema I have so far, and although I read quite a bit on the subject, I'm still not sure what cam I should get. Is the narrow lobe of aftermarkets a big issue? Is it reasonable to think that an OEM cam will have less chances of failure?
Cheromaniac and SilverXJ, could you give me your opinions on this?

ok, no opinions.... yet
another question: my machinist thinks that the stock timing cover is not deep enough for my JP double roller timing set. What do you think? Anybody ever had an issue with stock timing cover and double-roller timing set?

My opinion...I wouldn't put a used cam in a new engine. If you do, check all the lobes to make sure they aren't worn. You could have a stock cam reground. The base circle gets smaller when you do that, and you will need new pushrods. You might need new pushrods anyhow with milling the heads and block.

I am not talking about a used cam.... I am talking about cam choices, NEW. Like a new OEM one vs a comp, or lunati, or crower, or MP.

Can't help you there. My engine is not installed yet. I went with an Engle cam, but don't know how it is going to perform.

I totally dig my mopar30 and think that the 29 and 28 would be good as well and would consider using 1.7:1 RRs with those two if you wanted a little more lift and duration. I know the 28 can still be bought, but unsure of the 29 or 30.

The 30AB cam is no longer available. Before I sold the last one I had, I had it profiled. So if anyone wants to know the specs, I have them. The one thing I liked about the 30AB cam was the lobe separation was 108. That would make a good flat torque curve. The duration was only 200 degrees at .050. So the overlap wasn't that bad and would not effect the computer controlled fuel injection.
