Lets keep this thread going with cam specs, I like it. :D

Heres where Im at now.
Ive been planning this build for under 9.2:1 with a preference of 9:0 to 9.1:1.

Im having a problem with DCR. I need to be able to run 87octane at sea level in 100*+ summer temps without pinging. That is not negotiable.

Im going .020" over and have been planning on the KB944 pistons. I was hoping for a quench around .050"-.060".
Our handy-dandy calculator says the following...

30ab, 57cc head, .051 head gasket, and .020"deck clearance = .071 quench = 9.17cr/7.82dcr
30ab, 57cc head, .051 head gasket, and .010"deck clearance = .061 quench = 9.34cr/7.97dcr
30ab, 57cc head, .051 head gasket, and .005"deck clearance = .056 quench = 9.43cr/8.04dcr

For a comparason, the stock cam gives the following...
Stock, 57cc head, .051 head gasket, and .020"deck clearance = .071 quench = 9.17cr/6.76dcr
Stock, 57cc head, .051 head gasket, and .010"deck clearance = .061 quench = 9.34cr/6.88dcr
Stock, 57cc head, .051 head gasket, and .005"deck clearance = .056 quench = 9.43cr/6.95dcr

And I think Im being generous with the head volume.
I really dont want to go thru all of this to run a stock cam. Am I back to the drawing board ?

I was talking to dwg about my impressions of the 30ab cam. Right now I have 2800mi on it and its awesome. I have a 10:1 SCR and 8.54:1 DCR and it doesn't ping using 93oct at sea-level(haven't tried a tank of mid-grade yet). The cam is installed straight up and it pulls hard from 2200-redline. I am curious to see how the powerband would be if it was advanced 4 or 8*. Doing this increases my DCR~.2 per 4* advance, so my already in-the-red for pump gas DCR might go over the limit. I recommend this cam to whoever can get their hands on one and to advance it if your DCRs are in the 7-8:1 range.

Heres a added though on the comp 231 cam

Comp said don't us with fuel injected 4.0L.........But every on that has use it, disagrees with that!!!

Has any one ran the comp 231 on a NON stroker? Is it possible that the stroker improves the vac so the electronic say happy

Yes, its possible the stroker improves the vac signal.

Can you post the results for the stock and the Crane cam ?
Im making a comparison sheet of all your results in Excel. Its not for the actual numbers, just for comparing the results between cams.
The HP number on the stock cam doesnt jive with the TQ number in the FAQ.

243hp at 4000rpm should be 319lb/ft of torque. You have 278lb/ft of torque at 4000rpm which would be 211hp...

Has anybody tried the Mopar Purple Performance Cam? P/N: P4529228AB - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

Lift and duration seem pretty mild, but looks like it has the nice wide lobes like the stock cam

That cam seems a little small for a stroker...my opinion. Remember the engine cid is getting larger, so a cam that that may be good for a 4.0 might be a little small for a 4.6.
If you use a 1.7 rocker, the lift would go to .456. I'm not sure about the duration. Duration does increase a few degees with a higher rocker ratio.

Maybe i am missing the bigger picture, or maybe i'm not talking about the same cam, but if you guys are all talking about 4529230AB, then http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku shows that they are very much available. I just ordered the one step less version for my build, 4529229AB.

Estimated Ship Date: 8/29/08

If youcheck that page on 8/29 I will guarantee you that the date will be pushed forward.
Once they realise that they cannot get the cam from their distributors, they will update the page to show N/A.

The information that the 30ab is no longer available is from the parts counters at dealerships. There are no 30ab's available at dealerships, or thru dealer warehouses. They may be available thru outlets that have stocked a few, but Summit is not one of them.

BTW.
Mine arrived today

Yeah, i understand. I hope thats not the case with the parts i ordered. I ordered speed pro pistons and rings, and the 29AB cam, all have the same ship date of 8/28. If i successfully land the 29AB cam, i'm definitly exploring the use of 1.7 ratio rockers for a little more cam then i bargained for :D

Sorry, I didnt explain better...

With Summit, if the part you want has a ship date that is around 10-14 days out it usually means that it is a special order item and not stocked in their warehouse. Once your order is received, they place the order with the vendor, but Summit will not dropship with them. It comes into Summit's inventory and is then re-shipped from the Summit warehouse.

In the case of the 30ab, if no one has ordered one they have no idea that it isnt available. The rest of your stuff should be fine, its been mentioned around here that Mopar still has the 29ab in stock.
