Could be a weak lifter. What valve springs are you running?

Hey Silver,
I'm running the dual stage 5.2 Mopar V-8 springs.

Hey Silver,
Not sure. When I did the last cam in the engine as a 4.0, these are the springs that were recommended. The guy who did the head P&P work set them up for .525 lift and I believe this is within the range their appropriate for.

I`d be more curious of what the spring rate is.crustodd wrote:Hey Silver,

Hey jsawduste,
Do you mean the LBS. of pressure the springs are rated for?

Seat pressure, spring rate, and install height is what you want to know.crustodd wrote:Hey jsawduste,

Let`s not forget open pressure at max lift. Which can be done by math using the seat pressure, height(s) and spring rate.SilverXJ wrote:Seat pressure, spring rate, and install height is what you want to know.crustodd wrote:Hey jsawduste,

Yes it can be calculated, which is why I said only those three.jsawduste wrote:

Hey Jeepers,
I'm gonna run it by the machinists shop after work tomorrow and have him give a listen while it's still cold. I know he spent quite a bit of time setting up the head to get it right after it was done at the head shop. I know all the things you guys mentioned were addressed as well as checking the valve stem lengths to make sure they were equal and adjusting the roller rocker height to get the best geometry for the valve stem/roller tip contact. hH was recommended as being highly competent.
I'll report back tomorrow. Thanks for the input, all.

Re: temp guage reading and pinging, oil pressure spikes?
Hey Folks,
I ran by the machinist who assembled my stroker for me and took him for a spin. We concluded that the "rattley" noise is the KB forged pistons. They're a bit noisy until the engine is up to full temp. Not real bad, I just wasn't familiar with the sound. I replaced the rc12 champions with rc9's today. I gapped them to .045 since I have the MSD. I warmed it up and took it for a spin. It's still pingin' a bit, around 3500-4000 under WOT. I suspect it's running lean. I think the UniChip will cure these problems, so I'll drive mellow until then. I have some 110 Sunoco that I could add in to see what that'll do. If it's running lean, wouldn't it still ping regardless?

The good news is that above 3K is open loop territory and can be richened up w/ a simple adjustable map, piggy-back fuel management, or a standalone. Hopefully it isn't lean due to the fuel pump not being up to the task.

Re: temp guage reading and pinging, oil pressure spikes?
What do I have to do if the fuel pump isn't enough? I Have the Hesco adjustable FPR. Can that be turned up to help?

What clearance did he install the pistons at? I've heard people say they have no noise with them, one person that said only a buzz when shifting while cold and you appear to think they are pretty loud.

Re: temp guage reading and pinging, oil pressure spikes?
Hey Silver,
I may just be nit-picky here. It was a sound I wasn't familiar with, so along with valve train noise and a bit of ping, I was trying to figure out all the sounds. I'm not concerned about it. The other guy who works at the machinist's shop has a stroker, big-block Mopar in a Challenger and he was aware of the clearances on the KB's and determined that was pretty normal sounds for forged pistons. Yet another frustration that's occurring is a condition that seems like a bad TPS. I just had replaced it about about 6-7weeks ago and it seems like it is doin' it again. The dealer replaced it for free. But the new one I just installed is doin' the same stuff. It starts fine cold, but when it's warmed up and I start it, it revs up to about 2K then comes back down to an idle of around 700 rpms. I drove it on the freeway for about 50 miles and when I would come to stops after getting off the freeway, it is erratic. It wants to idle up to around 900-1000 rpms and when I blip the throttle while putting it in neutral or holding the brakes, it may rev up to 2000-ish and hover for a few seconds before coming down slowly. Are there other things things besides the TPS that could be causing this? I think the further A/F tuning should fix some of this, but I want to make sure the sensors are working correctly before I take it to UniChip.
