Which bearings to order?

Post by dingo151 »

Hey guys,

What bearings do I need to order for my stroker bottom end? I've got a 258 4 weight crank and 258 rods with ARP bolts? I'm taking my crank in to be manga-fluxed and turned down tomorrow so I'll have to wait to see how much they are going to turn it down but I thought I read here that have to order a mixed set to make everything work.

Thanks
Dean

You need bearings for the 4.0. The main bearings are different from the 258 and the 4.0. The rod bearings are the same. I have found the federal mogul CB960 rod bearings have the small notch in the rod bearings that let oil out to lube the cam and cylinder walls(I have bought 2 sets). Some rod bearings don't have them.

I use the Federal Mogul bearings for the same reason.

I went with the clevite bearings, which didn't have a notch, but I added the notch myself with a dremel.

Like dwg said, you need 4.0 (242) main bearings. You can use either the 242 or 258 rod bearings. Most stroker crank sets come with bearings so I just bought a set of 4.0 main bearings and used the 258 rod bearings that came with the crank.

The '87-'90 4.0's use the same main sets as the 258's, '91 and later 4.0's use a different set.
