anyone running a 4.6L stroker with a supercharger

Post by --jeep-- »

I am thinking of adding a supercharger to my Hesco 4.6L stroker. I was wanting a centrifugal type supercharger like a vortech or paxton and run 4-5 pounds boost. I have tried searching and so far the only thing i could find is that you need to run 30lb injectors. The vehicle is a 1994 Jeep YJ OBDI with unichip compression is 8.8:1. Anyone else have any writups or any info on installing one, i have heard there is a lot of problems with getting a stroker supercharged.

I had originally thought about doing the same, and i was going to build my jeep with boost friendly compression and cam, but i realized how much more it would cost to add boost, and decided to leave it all motor.

I was in Mgardiner1 shoes when i originally took on my project. Thought about building the engine to work with a few psi but backed out in this one. Decided to up the compression a bit and feel a bit safer driving around in CA. A blower would be a risky thing over here, yet alone have to remove it and its appropriate components every 2 years to smog. A compact centrifugal unit would of been the best route for my build due to the ease of installation and uninstalling it for smog, but there was to many more variables that i didn't want to consider at the time and without the appropriate amount of cash i was unwilling to try and hack something together. And i know very little about blowers :boom:

On another note. You might want to give Hesco another call they might be able to elaborate on some of the issues or things to consider on your application. I think they have done a few Stroker/Blown 4.0l. They have that interesting Rotrex compressor kit for the 3.8l V6. It puts out around 5 PSI according to them. Not sure if that units worth the cost compared to some pretty decent centrifugal units. Its worth giving them a call just to pick there brain. Bennie over there is always a pleasant man to speak with.
