Crankshaft Stroke

Post by GarageCrawlr »

Hi Everyone! Newbie here and building my first Jeep 4.6L stroker for a 2001 Cherokee that I am restoring. I am sure this question has been answered many times before, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer. My question is, what is the correct stroke dimension for a stock Jeep 4.0L crankshaft? The Jeep 4.2L engine is consistently listed as a 3.895" stroke, but I have read different stroke numbers for the 4.0L crankshaft. I have seen 3.44", 3.411", and 3.413". What is correct?

For my build, I am planning to use a 4.2L Crank (Scat 9000 3.895"), 4.0L rods (6.123" - 6.125"), and TBD pistons. Considering UEM KB424C or KB438C both with 1.353" compression (pin) height, or custom Pistons from Russ Pottenger with 1.385"compression (pin) height.

I have read that 1990 - 1995 4.0L cranks are 3.44" while 1996 - 2006 4.0L cranks are 3.41" (either 3.411" or 3.413"). Not sure this is correct and hoping someone can provide clarity as I want to make sure I am using the right values in the calculator for a deck clearance baseline.

Greatly appreciate any input and looking forward to the build!

Thanks,
Ryan

I can only confirm my '95 listed in my 4.6 stroker build sheet was 3.411" stroke stock (when it was a 4.0).

All 4.0L crankshafts had the same stroke. I used a 3.413" stroke and a 3.876" bore in my calculations.
