What parts do I take to the machine shop for bore/crank fit

Post by RockyMtn96XJ »

So I have mostly everything I need to go to the machine shop to get the .020 over and crank fitted. I have pistons (KB438c), oversized hastings rings, brand new crank, stripped block and head.

I want to make sure I bring everything with me the first time to the shop.
Is there anything else they will need to do the machine work? I'm not having them assemble anything, just make sure everything fits. Possibly assemble the rods and pistons. But I do have a press to use for that.

I DO NOT have new crank bearings yet.... is that something I should leave up to them?

Previous experience advice appreciated.

The machine shop guy can measure the rod & main journal diameters and advise you what size bearings you'll need. You might want to take a set of new cam bearings with you so they can press them into the block.

You say you have a press to take care of the pistons and rods. Do you have the proper stand for that procedure? Just putting the piston on the base of the press and forcing the pin usually deforms the piston, and may even crack the skirt. If you've never done it before, let the machine shop do it for you.

X-2,

Also make sure you bring your camshaft with you to the machine shop. Unless your machine shop has a history of doing Jeep work they may not have the necessary camshaft core to do a test fit after the cam bearing installation.
