Idle issues, custom tune.

I have had my 4.7 stroker from S&J for about 2500 miles now and it has been breaking in well. I have only two problems or complaints that I need to work through.
The build sheet quoted me a crane 750501 although they built it with a delta 991L that is 188/193 390 lift that was close to stock. I have reset the PCM when installing the motor. They sent me the crane cam and new lifters but i havent had it installed yet. With stock injectors and TB it idled well but would not pull over 3800 rpm without seemingly going lean and cutting out.
I now have a bbk 62 mm TB and Bosch 280155923 injectors as well as a flow daddy header and full k&n FIPK on it now. I reset the PCM again. It runs well but occasionally has cold start high idle and surges while in Neutral . it pulls hard at WOT all the way to about 4800 rpm.
I feel like it needs a custom tune.
First for the idle issue, second I don't like that it doesn't pull that hard off the line. It really has power from 2200rpm to 4200rpm
I was hoping it would pull earlier. That is probably the cam.
I contacted flyinryan and he doesn't email tune anymore. Also waiting back for an answer from Cristune.
Will a piggyback jet stage 2 chip make any difference or just wait. I haven't got a wideband yet as I don't want to purchase the wrong kind.

I know most of you would have went with a different cam but I needed a milder build that was gonna have great longevity and cost benefit with a warranty. Wife wasn't gonna have it with no warranty. Is it even worth it to out in the crane or just go with a different one.

This has nothing to do with your problem, but if I understand your cam specs correctly your 192 204 @ .050 with .390 lift.
That is WAY to small of a cam for a 4.7

To give you some perspective if you added two more cylinders to your 4.7 to make up a theoretical in line 8 cylinder you'd be just under 380 cubic inches. Not far off from stroking a 350 Chevy to a 383 Stroker.

If you do decide to do a camshaft change I have a special grind that Comp does for me and it's 206 212 @ .050 .435 .448 lift on 113° LSA.
It's intended to work with a stock valve spring.

I know Ryan and Chris get really busy, but both are really good and will be able to help you out

So what your saying Russ is having the crane 750501 installed would just be a waste of time and money.
As it is too small as well.
Will the engine have to be pulled again or can the cam be swapped with just removal of the grill and radiator. I could probably have that done a lot sooner.
Will the new lifters I have with the Crane work with your comp custom grind.

Now more things I have to plan for.
Probably not worth it to do a tune before the new cam either then.

The Crane cam is better than the cam you having it now, but still isn't ideal.

Not a problem doing the cam change in the Jeep.
Your new Crane lifters will work fine.

This is a good way to go as you'd save a lot of money by not having to upgrade the valve springs/retainers.
I originally used the Crane 753905 cam (204/216 duration @ 0.050", 0.456/0.484 lift, 112 LSA, 107 ICA) in my stroker 13 years ago and it was great, but the valve lift was too high for the stock valve springs and upgrading them cost me an extra $153.

Sounds like the cam from Russ is the way to go. I will contact you in a month or so when I am ready. Finally started working full time again and gotta get caught up not the real life things before upgrading. Should have just turned to Russ from the start but I feel like I got a good motor going forward with the scat crank and Kb944 pistons and new rods and ARP hardware so just gotta get it dialed.

I am not getting out, but I am having to change up my business model some. Burning the candle at both ends here trying to do the email tune thing, on top of all the dyno tuning in person I am doing now.

Hey Ryan! Glad you are still doing your thing! What is the best way to get ahold of ya? Finally got my exhaust done and as soon as I get my P&P head from Russ and slap it on, I want to get you to tune it for me.

Fyi: measure the ID of the FIPK where it sits on your nice 62mm TB and you'll see that it is choking your stroker.

Hmmm. Guess I hadn't really thought about that.
What is everyone else using for a CAI. Because the fipk does have a smaller diameter then the TB by quite a bit.

Finally got the time to get my custom intake done.

The Fipk was seriously choking. Its TB end is barely 2 inch in diameter.
Built my own full 3 inch with universal intake and turbo fittings for less then 60 bucks and just kept the good k&n filter.

I guess I'm behind . is it not the best filter to have anymore.

I've had mine for five years and re oil it at least twice a year.
