It takes a little extra time but you always want to put the front and back bearings in first. Then install the cam and check for fit. Install the 2nd cam bearing and repeat.
The bearing is soft enough that it will leave a mark if it's a tight spot. A combination of a bearing knife and Scotch-Brite should resolve the problem.

Re: Let's build a 4.6 stroker
I wonder if there is any relation to the number of #3 cam bearing failures and the fact that I had 2 sets of bearings (installed by the shop) end up so tight the cam wont install. And now it would seem here is another, although we don't yet know if it is the #3 in this case.

Okay so I was really hoping to wait until the final dyno until I posted again but I hit a little snag. Want to thank Russ for taking my money and turning it into jeep parts, he was so extremely helpful and everything went very well. I'll post a complete parts list later.
I know I installed the timing chain correctly (wish I installed the distributer before I reinstalled the cover) But the alignment hole on the distributer where you put the drift pin in will not let the distributer flange line up with the bolt hole in the block. The flange lands either slightly before the bolt hole on one tooth or slightly after. It is definitely sitting at TDC.
I've already driven the jeep, it seems to crank over hard and loses steam after about 3K rpm, w

Okay I found Dinos notes about having to cut the distributer tang, I did that and reinstalled. Sounds better at idle. Just got to install my afr gauge and we'll see how she did
