0331 Head Replacement

Post by hightide »

Just got a 2001 Cherokee that needs to have the head swapped out, was wondering what the consensus was on which to replace it with. I understand that the Clearwater heads are good, should I get the revised 0331 casting? They also offer a performance head with larger valves, would there be any benefit to that with a stock motor? Since it's got to come off anyway I was thinking of getting a header that would do away with the cats, any recommendations there? I know the upstream o2 sensors would have to be installed in the header but have read where some have just left the downstream sensors unplugged and are running fine, any truth to that?

I would definitely recommend a cylinder head upgrade/ replacement. As you probably know the factory 0331 had problems with cracking.

Jeep resolved this problem with the TUPY casting.
The second choice and I believe the most desirable is to go with one of the aftermarket 0331 Chinese castings that companies like Clearwater and myself sell.
The advantage of these heads over the TUPY is they arrive with hard exhaust seat inserts installed make it more advantages with unleaded fuel

I sell the heads bare for $350.00
Typically I'll add Chevy LS1 valve and spring upgrads along with some level of porting.

Don't hesitate to shoot me an email if interested in more information and pictures
