First time posting... Thanks for all the great info/photos. It's been a huge help thus far. My build is fairly basic but I plan to wring up a build thread when I'm done to help contribute a bit.
Anyways... I just got my build to the point of start-up/ break-in. It's cranking over but no start. I tried cranking it over twice for about 10 seconds each time; No go. Admittedly I have a bunch of researching to do on common issues, but figured I'd get some of your insight as well.
Details...
2000 TJ. Fairly common/basic 4.7L build using pistons, rods, cam, and ported head all from Russ. Original block and craigslist 4.2 crank. I can provide more details if helpful.
I had a local shop do the machining and assemble the long block for me. I spoke with the owner on multiple occasions and according to him they've done countless 4.0 builds and a handful of strokers. When I picked it up it sounded like he was the one that did the assembly. His son build a stroker a few years ago that's still running strong. It seemed to me like they knew their stuff.
As I said I tried cranking it over twice. It sounded almost like the timing was off. It seemed to be turning over a bit slower than I recall and sounded like something was off in general. I'm doing the rebuild in an apartment complex and had a neighbor come down and mention that he thought it sounded like the timing was off as well.

I didn't have much time to troubleshoot tonight. Some thoughts...
- It has fuel pressure up to the rail (bled before trying to start and re-verified after trying to start)
- Didn't have time to check for spark. How do you guys typically check for spark with these rail style coil packs?
- I'm not sure off hand on how to check timing. I'd almost like to rule this out for now given the experienced shop doing the assembly. Thoughts?
- CPS... It's there & plugged in. Didn't have time to check anything further.
Nothing else comes to mind, but as I said I have some research to do.
Thanks for the time/help.
