How crazy am I?

Post by cuban11182 »

So I'll be headed home from the Middle East here in a few days (R&R) and plan on dropping my engine off at Newcomer Racing while I'm there. My CJ7 still has the original AMC20 and Dana30 for axles and I plan to do the standard mods to them (one piece axles for the rear, stitch the tubes, and truss it, and chromoly axles for the 30) and plan to keep them. I also have an SM465 and a T177 (with bell housing that I can have machined to fit the SM465) and I think either of them would work well (the 465 being the obvious choice). I plan on putting a carb on the engine (between a holley 390 that I already have, a MC2150 which I already have, or a truck avenger 470) and using it as a DD. I don't plan on doing any crazy offroad: beach and easy trails in the woods, and don't really see the need to do burn outs in a jeep. The reason I want to stick with the originals is that I already have them, and they're working fine.

Any thoughts on my plans?

Welcome back and enjoy that R&R! I was in Bahrain from August 2014-15.

Not sure too much on the part numbers you threw out there, but it doesn't sound like you're going too crazy. How is the motor? Low mileage, running strong?
