Anyone Build A Late Model ('05 - '06) Stoker?

Post by 06-Rubicon »

Hi Folks,

First post here for me. I have a 2006 Rubicon which I bit the bullet on and am in the process (with a heck of a lot of help from Russ Pottenger) of building a 4.6. The goal for this build is increased power to overcome the extra weight of larger tires, armor, camping gear and the rolling resistance of a lifted Jeep that typically carries two kayaks on the roof.

Russ is putting together the parts for a modified version of the 4.6 Low Buck Stoker (that'll run 87 Octane) and will retain all the benefits of his worked over head.

The question I have is that in going over the tons of information on this site I've run across several notes that there are some differences regarding 2005 & 2006 engines. It appears that the computer is different and allows no modifications, so adjusting the MAP Ratio is not an option when it comes to tuning. I've also seen notes that indicate different fuel injectors should be used for the late model engines, as well as a different throttle body.

So, does anyone have experience with a late model build? Hints? Tips? Tricks?

Will Ford or Accel 24 lb. fuel injectors work or are the 26 lb. Chevy LS1 injectors the only way to go? Why would this be? Will those injectors fit under the OEM fuel rail and work without having to change the electrical plugs?

What spark plugs are recommended for this engine? I'll be running the OEM late-model coil rail.

I love this site and in the interest of information sharing I plan to write up a mini-FAQ of my experiences building a late model 4.0 because, well, we could use it here. :)

Thanks In Advance!

AFAIK, the '05-'06 models run a fuel pressure of 58psi (4 bar) and the Chevy LS1 injectors are designed to run at that pressure. They're also appropriately sized for a 240-270hp stroker, easy to find, and fairly inexpensive.
As far as plugs go, the stock units will do fine.

Thanks!

For anyone looking for those very injectors, I'll save you some time with the part numbers:

Injector (The 1999-2000 Chevy LS1 Injector) These flow a bit more than 26.2 Lb/hr @ 4 Bar, should work fine for 268 Hp.

Bosch: 280 155 890
GM: 12555894
