I have a stock 1997 TJ engine and driveline, which I am looking to refresh in the coming weeks. Originally I was going to purchase a 4.6 engine from Golen, however was taken back by the reviews.
What I would like to know:
• Who has the best reputation for building a stroker (price is not a factor as i plan on keeping my jeep another 200k)
• What is the reliability ( I drive this jeep to Moab yearly so I need 4.0 reliability)
• Why do some stroker builds require larger injectors and zinc oil additive while others do not
• What compression do you want to stick with
• Has anyone had success with ATK (branded as mopar or Hesco
• Has anyone had great success with any machine shops in Denver or Bolder area
The reason for looking to a pre-built engine was
1. Consistency in the build vs a machine shop with parts provided as most have not built anything more than a 4.0
2. I was warned that reliability was not there and they one particular shop in Denver had to many problems and not will not build them
Engine Question

• Who has the best reputation for building a stroker (price is not a factor as i plan on keeping my jeep another 200k) Russ Pottenger on this forum has a great reputation for building these engines.
• What is the reliability ( I drive this jeep to Moab yearly so I need 4.0 reliability) Good parts, good machine work, good assembly techniques equals good reliability
• Why do some stroker builds require larger injectors and zinc oil additive while others do not Variances in compression, cylinder heads used and intake/exhaust flow numbers, camshaft profile, exhaust efficiency, PCM tuned or stock to name a few.
• What compression do you want to stick with ....many pages of info and too many variables to list depending on what your "real world" expectations are and use. Your quench height is just as important.
• Has anyone had success with ATK (branded as mopar or Hesco No experience personally
• Has anyone had great success with any machine shops in Denver or Bolder area Nope

Re: Engine Question
Not feeling the best right now....post surgery.... But I can assure you that many of your concerns can and will be answered here.
Properly built (same with any engine) you should not have any issues with reliability.
