An Edelbrock head ported by Russ Pottenger if you're prepared to shell out the cash.lens_xj wrote:so what I hear you all saying is there is not one head out there build for the stroker that really works the way we would like. so is it a matter of getting a head off the shelf that comes as close as possible then getting someone that knows what they are doing to "tune" the head. if so, who would that be?

Mmmm the cost of the head of my dreams looks to be just under 3000 after tuning. to much for me but it would be nice. last question; I am going to get a 62mm throttle body but I am also thinking about getting roller rockers at 1.7. do you all think that would give me a little more and $ cheaper $ power and torque ?

Aftermarket cams for the Jeep I6 engine are spec'd for 1.6 ratio rockers. Raising the rocker arm ratio to 1.7 will add more power by increasing valve lift but higher ratio rockers will also alter the pushrod angle and, depending on the cam used, may require upgraded valve springs.

I work on a fair share of Edelbrock heads. My customers choose them for different reasons.
Many of the racers choose it for weight savings. Others because after porting, is the best flowing Jeep head available. Lastly, some choose it because it's cool to have aluminum cylinder head.
One of my fully ported HO iron heads ready to bolt on will cost just under $1500.00, less than half of the sexy aluminum head, but not that far off in flow numbers. As in most things it's objectives and budgets.
As for rocker arms. Harland Sharp makes my rocker arms in 1.6, 1.65, and 1.7 ratios.
Along with a half a dozen camshafts on my shelf, rocker arm ratios is another tuning tool.

Re: first timer, first question about aluminum heads,be gen
Thanks for the info Russ, I would really like the Edelbrock head because; my god it is so cool,
also because of it's ability to get read of heat making it possible to get a higher compression, it has a lot of "meat" on it for guys like you to be able to "tune" it, now if the money gods ever smile now upon me and I got this then I would like to talk to you. I want to make sure after you get though with it that I understand what this head can really do for my needs . I am not interested in racing but I do want a real strong motor that will do anything and everything I ask it to do from 800 RPM to 5000 RPM that means all the other parts to come after the head have to be married to each other (no fighting)
I am at the point I know how the jeep will feel as I drive it, I know how it will respond when I press that gas pedal, I know how it will sound. So far I have the under body done and it drives and feels very good. better then I hoped for. now I am turning my time and $$ to the motor/transmission so far it has taken me 5 years and lots and lots of $$ to get to this point. Sorry I am getting a little long. I just wanted you to know that I know want I want but sometimes I do not know how to get it.you guys are helping me a lot in understanding this I6 and how to get the power I want out of it. Right now the head or any head is out of the question but I am very intrigued with Edelbrock and with your work Russ. I have read a lot about you and your work. it is very good stuff and I am empresses. when I get to the point of buying a head I think it will be the Edelbrock and I would really like to talk to you about what I want out of the Edelbrock. thanks for listening or in this case reading
