93 yj 4.7 stroker running rich

Post by Jakerisener »

93 yj 4.7 stroker kit from titan with mild comp cam cam. New 19 lbs injectors four hole pattern. Apex nao color map controller. Banks header all new exhaust. Stock ecm. Stock fuel regulator tested fuel pressure is on spec. Everything is new but throttle body. Got a wideband o2 that's how I can tell if it running rich It'll be pegged at 10. But sometimes it sweeps and everything and runs great. First time posting. Thanks for the help

There's no way in hell that a 4.7 stroker could run rich with 19lb injectors unless either the Apexi Neo has been wrongly programmed or the wideband O2 is giving false readings.
If it's mostly pegged at an AFR of 10, I'm inclined to believe there's a problem with the wideband.

It works sometimes others it just stays 10.3 10.6 on the wideband I got a video of it sweeping to 14.6 15. and a video of it doing nothing. But it would load mp4. Files on here. It's like something is making it go rich

OK I'll check them again. I got a snap on obd1 scanner so I'll do it when I get home. I changed it a month ago but it was aftermarket. Might need factory

Put factory temp senor in nothing. No codes . Couldn't get wideband to move . I don't know.

How well does it run? If it was really running at 10:1 it would be stumbling all over the place and falling on its face.

What are your using for a wide band O2 setup?

For the price, the Apexi Neo wasn't the best idea.

Can you read any live data with the Snapon scanner?

OK so I ran my motor after I built it for a while with the stock manifold and it had a crack in didn't know or see it. I replaced it with a banks exhaust but I think in the meantime it burn my wideband out. Thanks Cheromaniac. Is a aem . Tested it to day no good . Maybe been getting a false reading .apeix was free. Got a better suggestion?

The 19lb injectors are too small for a stroker and since you have OBD 1, I'd recommend the same Ford Racing or similar (e.g '93-'95 Cobra) 24lb injectors that I'm using.
I fine tuned my fuel curve with a homemade MAP adjuster and it did a pretty good job, but you could do better with a wideband O2 and the Apexi Neo as you'd have the ability to adjust the injector duty cycle at various rpm points and set the AFR at the optimum 12.8-13.2 (0.87-0.90 lambda) under WOT across the whole RPM range.

Put new wideband in and I'm still getting a rich reading. Could my ecm be bad just going rich? Is there a way to check that?

How rich? 10's like before?
Disconnect the Apexi Neo and try running the engine on the stock PCM alone.

x2 disconnect the neo and see what happens.

How does the engine run though? Black smoke out the rear?

Ok so drove the last few days everything is going good . Till today on the way to work .wideband just starts reading rich the longer I drive. Weird. Reading is at 10.1 10.4 all the time. Like it went bad . It's about 2 to 3 inches from the exhust headed about 3 inches about the stock o2 sensor. Any ideas seems to be running good no code . Brand new wideband sensor. Less than a week old. Idk shit is driving me crazy
