4.6 Stroker Running Rich

Post by bpranes »

Finally got the exhaust put on my new stroker, put in a new o2 sensor and wideband 02 sensor for an air/fuel gauge. It starts fine and runs pretty good. Not sure exactly what readings are optimal for these stokers. At idle after starting it up it reads around 11.0-11.2 occasionally jumping up to 12-13. I took it for a cruise around the block and cruising at about 40-50mph (tachometer on order) it's running at around 13.5. Seem's like this is pretty rich to me, any advice is appreciated.

Renix, that makes it tougher.

Possibly that cam with so much duration is knocking your vacuum/MAP readings down and causing it to run rich.
What is your idle vacuum and cruise vacuum?

Maybe try your stock injectors and watch your AFR.

Try the stock injectors or a replacement injector with the same flow rating as a stock one. Most Renix with running rich issues work well with the stock injector.

No it doesn't.

Not sure, don't have a working vacuum gauge handy.

I took the jeep on it's first real drive today(30miles) since the new motor and all. After it warmed up It still idled around 11-12, varying. When cruising about 55 with traffic and on it a little bit it's getting between 14.5-15, depending on the throttle. If I let off the throttle will cruising same speed it goes back down to 12-13(richer). Do these readings seem pretty good?
It ran pretty good and drove great, only thing is I need to adjust my tps sensor for idle. Put a new tps on when I did the motor build and never adjusted it with a meter, just set it to as close as the same spot I could get. Is there a good thread on here for adjust TPS? Is it done by ohms?
Bought cold air intake to put on too..

with the larger injectors?

Normal

I'm not familiar with the Renix but on the OBD II it will go rick for a few seconds then either go back to !14.7 or go into decel cut off.

I can tell you 100% that 24lb injectors are too much for a Renix Stroker unless you are doing something crazy. Toss in the stock injectors, reset the ecu by pulling the battery cables and holding them together for 30 seconds, then connect it back up and give it a start. Once adjusted it should run fine. A tell tail sign it runs too rich is if you hear the engine start to run like crap like it's slowing down and about to die, then it jumps back up to normal rpm and does that once every few minutes. Means the computer can't pull enough fuel to run right and goes back to open loop. This may help you out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dstyjD5Hy9Y

Agree with you except that the OP's stroker is effectively a HO version that's merely controlled by a Renix ECU.
