What the hell, I just want a crank !!!
Instead of tearing my 81 258 into pieces for the crank and rods I decided to just look for a crank. WTF I just want a crank and not a whole kit for $1000. Apparently everywhere I look for one its considered a " stroker crank " so now the price of them has gone through the fricking roof. Just because it is used for a stroker everybody wants a shit load of money for them and its just a STOCK crank.
I'm just pissed off here.

$215 from Autozone. I won't guarantee the quality, that would be up to you or your machinist to verify.
Or take your chances at a junkyard. $210 for a whole engine at my local u-pull-it.
Scat sells NEW ones for just over $400.

I have a used 258 crank and rods I would be willing to sell. I have decided to go with a scat crank and forged rods so I no longer need these. PM me if you are interested.

How many do you want ?
4cwt or 12cwt ?
Problem is once you find and refurb a stock crank you might as well buy a new Scat.
That Russ Pottenger guy has them for reasonable prices in the 4cwt flavor.

If you can't find a 258 crank and have it machined for WAY less than a new Scat crank, you're not looking very hard!?
You can get more power out of ANY engine!!!

Its just ridiculous ! Autozone and oreilys offers them for $185 refurbished or new. The problem is they no longer have any idea when they are getting them. I have a 258 crank and rods in my 81 serpentine belt Amc Eagle sx4. I don't want to pull the engine and tear it all apart. In the end I have half a motor laying in the garage. Hell you can get a 4.0 crank all day for pennies compared to a 258 " stroker crank "

Chris,
I don't quite understand why you're getting upset. Pissed to use your own words.
Engine kits and Stroker engines are assembled at various quality levels.
Depending on your knowledge in the amount of effort that you want to put into the project, a stroker could virtually be built at any budget level.
I'm not a betting Man, but if there were a contest I'd put up my own money and bet I could build a stroker with all new parts cheaper than anybody else on this forum. I'm happy to say that because many of my competitors in the engine building business are working hard to see how cheap they can build an engine, and that has helped My Business immensely.
For an example I can sell a complete master engine kit that includes:
Pistons
Rings
Rod & Main bearings
Cam bearings
Oil pump
Freeze plugs
Camshaft
Lifters
Timing set
Full gasket kit
.... For less than $400.00 shipped to your door, and would be happy to sell these kits all day long.
Buy a used 258 short block for the crank and rods for $200.00, and you have a Stroker between $750.00 and $1000.00
Let me know, i'd be happy to restructure a kit for you.
