Can't decide on a few things.....

Post by sandfreestyle »

Hello all! Frequent lurker first time poster here. Been researching a lot and have found some very helpful stuff in my quest to build my stroker. But even with all the research I’ve done I still need to ask a little help from the “pros”, I can’t decide on some of the parts to complete my build. Since this is a CA emissions vehicle I need it to pass smog without issues, plus it’s a daily driver so it needs to be reliable. I’m not looking for a high HP monster, just a modest daily driver/weekend warrior.

Goals:
Pass CA smog
Run on 89-91 pump gas
Reliable daily driver/weekend warrior
250-270HP/300-330TQ
Turn 35” tires with 4.56 gears uphill at 65mph without downshifting

Parts Already Decided on:
96 block
Scat 4.2 crank
Stock 4.0 rods
CompCams 68-232-4 camshaft and lifters
Port matched 0630 head/intake/exhaust
Stock valves/springs/pushrods (if still in spec)
Performance 0.043 head gasket
01+ intake
Banks header
HV oil pump
Double roller timing chain
ARP bolts throughout
Clevite bearings throughout
24lbs injectors and adjustable regulator
64mm TB
Adjustable MAP sensor

Can’t decide on:
Pistons
Rings
Quench height (thinking 0.043)
Compression (thinking in the 9.2 range)
Larger valves (will do 2.00/1.55 if valves need to be replaced anyways)

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Agree. You've set some clear goals for your stroker build, and Russ can fix you up with a set of custom pistons for the desired quench height and CR. If you live in CA you could even hire Russ to build the engine for you.
