High Zinc Oil and Lifters

Has anyone had a problem with high zinc oil clogging hydraulic lifters?

I am getting a bit of tapping from the No. 3 cylinder, but it could be an exhaust manifold leak tap too.

I would not think that would be possible. If you put camshaft breakin fluid in a pot on the stove and heat it up some it thins out to almost a water texture just like regular oil does.

Here is the exact stuff I put on the stove. 60,000 ppm zddp. Heated it to about 185 degrees. It thinned out pretty good. It did seem to thicken back up to the orginal viscosity once it cooled. Always good to keep a garage pot on hand to use for cleaning parts, testing thermostats etc.

Keep in mind that while a little ZDDP is good an over abundance can actually be worse then not enough.

Artificially induced high concentrations of ZDDP (+1700/1800 ppm) can cause corrosion inhibitors formulated into typical motor oils to become less effective. Simple things like bearings, journals and the like don`t enjoy a steady diet high in Zinc.

A binge while celebrating maturity is fine but long term uses stifles the potential longevity and usefulness.
