93 Grand Cherokee 5.2L with Hughs 318STROKERKIT

Post by paulsheer »

Hi!

I am planning to do a Magnum 318->390 with the hughesengines.com kit 318STROKERKIT.

I called Hughes and they said they "heard" of this kit working with a stock 5.2L engine computer, but that he "can't say for sure it would work". He said the OBDI on the pre-96 was a problem.

My goal here is to Up the torque and put a "6.4L" decal on the rear (and the doors too!). I have no interest in high revs or hp bragging rights.

so i will have:

- stock heads
- stock '93 cam
- stock '93 engine computer
- stock fuel injection
- melling high volume oil pump
- performance water pump
- balanced crank, rods, and pistons from the 318STROKERKIT kit.

My question is: will this work? will the engine computer adjust the injector for more fuel, and do so automatically?

At least one person thinks it does work:

Last thing I want is to start it up and find that it runs lean, or does not run at all (or worse!).

Using larger injectors the PCM should handle it, depending on how aggressive the cam is. However, with the stock tune on the PCM you will be leaving some power on the table.

So the Grand Cherokee with SBEC2 were never available with 5.9's, but the Ram truck had them. I agree, install the bigger injectors, see how it runs, check the mixture under load, if it's reasonable and runs ok then good. That being said, if you do have issues, I can port over the 5.9 fuel and spark surfaces, injector offsets, etc, from the Ram 5.9 cal to the Jeep ecu.
