She's alive!!!!

Post by bigal389 »

I just fired her up about 2 hours ago. I went through the cam break-in, let her cool down for a bit then test drove her. I must say she's peppy at the least. Well worth the trouble to build her. I'll still need the throttle body and intake work. I'll keep yall updated.
Thanks to all, Al

I drove her about 75 mile or so and all I can say is she is a complete different animal now. I can't wait to get the tb upgrade done. I just have to figure out what size I should go with.
Thanks, Al

Al,

I'd suggest 62mm.

Congrats on another happy ending stroker build.

Russ I think you read my mind. I was thinking 62 or 63. I just have to get some time to get it done.
Thanks, Al

A tiger instead of a tortoise. ;)

That matches the plenum opening in the intake manifold and is good enough for an engine that'll seldom go above 4500rpm.

She's a daily driver so she not going to see high rpms very much just on the occasional passing. I think the 62mm should fit the bill. I'll keep updates with any changes. I just hope the fuel mileage picks back up and the low mileage is just from the breakin and being a new engine. I've put 220 miles on a full tank and the light is on.
Thanks, Al

Ok on the first tank of fuel I that the poor milage was due to the break in procedure bit the second was only .5 mph better. It got 13.5 on the second tank under the same conditions that I normally drive and get 17-18 mpg. It has the caravan 007 injectors which were in it when I bought it. I will be changing them to the 24# injectors this weekend hopefully. Anyone have an idea what would be causing the poor milage?
Thanks, Al

Give it more time. My engine didn't feel like it was fully broken in until I was past 5,000 miles so you can expect gas mileage to improve as you add more miles and the engine loosens up.

Ok today she threw code p0171 bank 1 lean. I checked all vacuume lines for leaks as well as the intake manifold with an un lit propane torch. I also retorqued the intake/exhaust manifold . I replaced both pre cat o2 sensors and will post the results after driving her a bit.

Bank 1 sensor 1 was dead so I ordered and replaced all O2 sensors since I didn't know the history of the rest. The fuel mileage was at 17.5 last fill up. She has about 1300 miles on her now and seems to still be breaking in, she gets stronger by the day. I would build another stroker tomorrow, the power and torque are well worth the cost to me. I did have a couple times that it detonated on 87 but not very much, which my wife put in when she filled it up. The rest of the time has been on 89 octane with no problems.

Yes very thoroughly disciplined. For some reason she said IF she ever drove it again that I'd better hope it didn't run out of gas because she would never put it in again! I'd really hate for my wife and daughter not to drive my Jeep, that would really upset me.
