looking to build a stroker

Post by Huntinde »

I am starting to look at building a stroker. I was looking at a titan engine kit, but have been told nothing but bad things. I do not want to buy a full built engine, but a kit. Should I just find a block, have a machine shop work it and build from there? Just trying to get the full facts. :deadhorse:

There's nothing wrong with Titan's stroker kit; it's just their built stroker engines that are failure prone.
I suggest you find a decent junkyard 4.0L engine to build up and either source a complete stroker kit, or cherry pick the parts you'd need for the stroker build.
Once the stroker is assembled you can have it swapped into your Jeep over a weekend, and keep your old engine as a back up spare until you've added enough miles on the stroker to be confident in its reliability before selling the old engine on to recoup some of the cost.

Dino, I`d like to add a comment to your response.

There is a tremendous difference between a machine shop that rebuilds engines and one that does specialty work. If I were looking to have an engine built for me I`d want to be sure the machine shop/engine builder knew the all important specs that go into a well running, long lasting I6 stroker engine.

Things like proper valve spring rates and geometry. Chamfering of the cam bearings and crank oiling ports. Cam selection and set up. Deck height/quench and piston selection as just a few examples.

All important points John. Totally agree with the need to find a specialist engine builder who'll check that everything is within spec and assemble the engine correctly, rather than just assign the job to any halfwit grease monkey who'll just slap the parts together.
My questions to Huntinde are:

1. What year/model is your Jeep?
2. What's your budget?
3. What are your goals for the stroker build?
