Not cheap but something to consider. Increased volume for better temperature control. The only company that I know of that offers extended oil capacity oil pan for our i6's.

Its not cheap, but not a bad idea. I like the extra capacity, the trap doors and the sump cover. The extra bung on the side is interesting. I wonder if it could be used for an in sump oil heater, but I dont think the oil level comes up that high. I think its probably for the few Jeeps that had an oil level sender.

Definitely not cheap and not necessary on a daily driver, but worth its weight in gold for any type of racing that involves high cornering speeds and g forces. The extra oil capacity lowers oil temperature, and the improved baffling prevents oil pump cavitation that can lead to spun rod bearings and a blown engine.
The extra bung on the side is probably for an oil temperature gauge sensor.

Just eyeballing the 98 pan of the engine I am currently prepping.
Off the cuff comments may not be well thought out or may contain little relevant fact..
Pan is pretty deep with the pickup just off the bottom. But the bottom sump is small compare to the overall size of the pan itself. Engine holds 6 quarts with I am guessing a quart in the filter and another quart of so within the galleys plus a quart in the head. leaving approx. 3 quarts in the pan.
Solid windage tray sloped back to the sump. This will be well aerated oil from windage.
While I cannot point to a lube failure on any I-6 that had the appropriate amount of oil in it (read that as a lack of oil to the pickup) I have come to an opinion of heavy nose down operation and the pump sucking air. Guess the opportunity is there.
Just last week one of our club members was parked on a snow bank with the front bumper on the ground and the ass in the air. Engine idling as it was minus xx temp and he was warming up the cabin. My conscience bothered me to the point of calling him and suggesting he shut it down for fear of sucking air.
Going to get in touch with Moroso and find out how far the wings protrude. Thinking along the lines of exhaust clearance.
I may bite the bullet on this and combine it with a crank scraper....... The scraper would work much more efficiently with the doors.

I hate idling my engine for any extended period of time. Good point. When I was thinking of modifying my stock pan IIRC I could only do a kick out on the passenger side due to the down pipe on the driver's side.Going to get in touch with Moroso and find out how far the wings protrude. Thinking along the lines of exhaust clearance.

Don't forget that Ishihara-Johnson also makes windage screens.

Thanks Chris, Got to crawl under and see how much room there is for a wing. IIRC not much.........
Hate to think of purchasing a pan then modifying the side........Perhaps Moroso could be convinced to make a pan with only a passenger wing ?
Planned on the Ishihara-Johnson scraper but not the screen. The screen mounts to the girdle fasteners. Going to use the ARP studs on the mains instead.
Ninja Edit.......Drivers side there is no way a wing will clear. Have approx. 1 inch between the exhaust and the pan. Will talk to Moroso about making a single or even a winless pan. Do like the trap doors so it`s worth following up with. IMHO at least.

the bung is for oil return( all their deep sump pans have them) I have it for oil return from the turbos on my mustang. the flaps will keep the pickup submerged even when your on a steep incline or hard cornering. I'd love to have one on my build, but I can't justify the price.

Even on the passenger side, the space available for a kickout is limited by the starter. I modified my oil pan by adding an extra baffle at the rear and left it at that.

Talked to Moroso tech. Seems they have been selling the pans without much issue for over a year now.
That said, they do offer a re-man service where you could purchase a pan, mark where it needs to be modified and they provide the "custom" service.
The other option would be to generate a bulk order of 15-20 pans and they do a short run of "wingless" sumps.

Chris, the tech guy at Moroso was very impressive in his willingness to help out. He had logged notes in a personal "folder" of anyone whom had called with a fitment issue. Seems they have been building this pan for better then a year and other then 2 other (reported) instances of exhaust clearance issues on non-standard set ups the pan has been working well.
In fact they have a new supply of a 100 pans coming from the zinc plater on the 21st.
When the time comes I`ll mock up what I have. Decide the best course of action to make it work and go from there.

It's kinda funny, but at the same time impressive, that more companies are stepping forward to produce aftermarket parts for an engine that went out of production almost a decade ago. Just shows how much the 4.0L I6 is revered.
