3 grove valve spring locks?
i just ordered a comp cam, with mopar PN 5249464 springs, mopar PN 4452032 retainers and mopar PN 4529218 locks. Turns out i have 3 grove valves. Im reading that i can use the stock 3 grove locks with these retainers. ( advanced performance modifications Eric Zappe book) anyone know if this is correct? I have the head at the shop and they were going to order a whole new set of valves on a head that was just remaned for me. Also do i need them to set the spring pressures? Any help would be great . Thanks

The stock locks should work, but I have heard reports of them putting the valve tip too low in relation to the retainer. I don't know if the valve tips were cleaned up or not in those cases. If that has a problem MP P4452030 locks are 3 groove and spec'd with the P4452032 retainers for the 2.2/2.5L engine's 8mm valve.

Yes you need to set the spring pressures. You want around 110 on the seat and 245 at .500 lift. Plenty of meat under the spring seat if it needs to be cut for the installed height. which will be 1.7-1.8 ish.

Re: 3 grove valve spring locks?
I used exactly what you are proposing and I have had no problems. Of course I do drive like a granny and it has never seen above 4,000 revs, but still I think you are fine. Where did you find the mopar PN 5249464 springs? It took me six months to find them one at a time but I got them and I do believe they are the right springs for the job if you are trying to add a bigger cam. What cam did you get?
