Who has personal experience with custom camshaft vendors for

Post by nicpaige »

I would like to keep my cam retainer plate system on my 1999 block and I am learning that in order to get the wide style lobe and still use the retainer I will have to go with a custom cam grind. Having said that I would appreciate hearing anyone's personal experience and recommendations for a great vendor to make my cam. Thanks again. :worship:

Mike Jones. He is well respected in performance engine building circles.

Prior to ordering my cam from Jones I contacted bullet. They said they didn't do the later cam style. It wouldn't hurt to check again though.

Sent Jones a custom build tech sheet. Hope to hear back from them this week. No huge rush as I just ordered my Bulltear pistons Monday and I'm thinking they may take awhile to show up. I went over and over the numbers and I hope I did the right thing with the 26cc dish. Time will tell.

Ordered the cam from Jones Cams. So far his responses have been very quick. I believe it should make it hear about the same time as the Edelbrock head and hopefully the custom pistons. Then I can finally take the block and crank to the machine shop. It will be like a second Christmas.

I will ask him if he minds me posting the specs in a public thread after I get it in my hands.

Chris / Silver recommended Mike Jones to me as well. I am still in the process of putting my build together so have yet to see the performance aspect of the grind he did for me. However, several months after receiving his cam he called me to follow up and make sure I was satisfied with his work. Mike Jones is respected in his profession and is active on speedtalk (cam king). You can read up on some of the tech he contributes to the boards over there.

cheers,
