i've got a question. I chose to get a rebuild done on the 4.0. Just a stock rebuild.. I know, I know. Anyways, I am replacing my harmonic balancer. The thing is and I'm ignorant to the fact is that my old one that came off had 4 holes machined into it. I assume for counterweight for the crank? The new one that I bought from Summitracing and IS IN FACT the right part for my yr/model only has two of these machined holes. Are these holes to balance the balancer or are they countered to balance the resonation of the crank? Will the 2 hole one work w/my engine or will it require one with the same hole count? Not mine but what my old one looks like and my new one
The holes are not for counter weighting. The inline 6 does not need a counter weight on a balancer. They are there to balance the balancer itself. Hole count nor position doesn't matter. It would be advised to have the balance of it checked by the machine shop.
