metric vs. std rings?
Well, I'm needing to decide what pistons to get for a mild 4.0 build and need some advice. I'm looking at keith black hypereutectic's(?) The metric's are $177. And std are $260. @ summit. I'm wanting moly rings. They can get std's for $45. But can't get metric(summit) Anyone know where to get the metric's? Pros or cons for either? are metric rings $90 More to make the piston price irrelevant?
I'm building this for my dad so I want it to last. Any input will be appreciated.
Thx

Re: metric vs. std rings?
I never did figure out the point between metric vs standard rings. Figuring the price of pistons and the rings metric vs standard come out the same.

Re: metric vs. std rings?
Get the correct rings for the pistons you have. I have the H825cp30s and I bought the standard moly rings. If I had the H802Cp30s, I'd use metric moly rings. 95 and below are standard and 96 and above are metric stock. You can use either when you build your stroker. I still find it ridiculous that one piston is cheaper than the other, but then the matching rings are more expensive, so figure out the cost as a package.

Re: metric vs. std rings?
Just ordered the kb silvolite 3241hc 's @.030 $177.99 (metric) Summit did have rings for them(when i called earlier the guy said they didn't carry them
) rings were ZE925K30 $85.99 so $263.98 for both when the std 3242hc's were $260.99 without rings. Those rings were $45.95. Not a huge difference, but it all adds up
Heck I saved enough to get one of those slick tapered ring compressors ($28.95 @ summit adjustable from 3.900 to 4.050 pn# sme-90a3900)

Re: metric vs. std rings?
First you need to use the appropriate rings for the pistons you use. You can't put metric rings on standard pistons and visa versa.
The advantage to metric rings is less drag which equates to more power. I don't know of any advantage to the standard rings.
