Suitable blocks for Stroker builds....

Post by YJ Genie »

Just starting to set up for stroker build. I ordered a complete engine for a 98 TJ. I thought I would receive a 515 block with a 0630 head. What I received was a 53010328AB block with a 0331 head. I know the head is not desirable, and the cylinder block # points to a 2000 + XJ. All the info I find leads me to believe the motor mounts and accessory bosses are not compatible for fitment in my 1990 YJ.... Am I wrong?
Should I return it or keep it for my build?
Go ahead and JUMP, then build your WINGs on the way down.....

Why order for a 98TJ when you have a 90 YJ ? You should have ordered a complete motor for a 91 YJ.
Then there would be no worries. I'm sure it will work but your just making it more difficult on yourself.

Return it and get either a '91-'95 YJ or '96-'98 TJ long block.

BADASYJ,
Sent it back , apparently pulled by mistake... The staff at AIM parts handled the whole deal. Great experience.
I picked 98 TJ for the donor to get the 0630 head and an NVH block. I heard the early 4.0 had thin main webs and other vibration issues. As it will be a complete teardown and 4.6 or 4.7 stroker build, I have been led to believe most Wrangler applications could be accomodated with this engine / head combination. Just hope I'm not wrong. Minor bracket issues aren't a real worry, but motor mount location was.
I'm still making build decisions, but finding a good block and head were first on the agenda...

Thanks for your comments. I look forward to any future "constructive" comments or suggestions.
Gene.
PS. My 4.2 is still running with 126,000 miles but down on power. It will be freshened and stored in the event it needs to come back into the game....
