New Stroker Build I am Lost

Post by Rugby »

I have an 01 TJ and I burnt one of the valves in the head. So I am going to rebuild the whole engine. I am looking at one of the parts kits from Clegg http://www.cleggengine.com/stroker-kits ... -kits.html . I am not sure which way to go with the parts. I am lost with all of the different numbers.

This is the kit I am looking at with the IC944 pistons 4.0 rods and the scat crank.

I am worried about the compression being to high to run on 87 octane gas. I have read that you need to deck the block .020" to run the IC944's but what if it only gets decked .010" or no decking at all? It it be a horrible running engine at that point?

I have 4 months before I can start ordering any parts so I have some time.

The jeep it is going in is a 2001 TJ with 4.88 gears and 35" tires with 3.5" of lift.

The engine will merely have a lower SCR without decking the block but it'll run fine, and may even run without pinging on 87 octane in cooler weather.

I have IC944s and 0 deck and it runs good. I have run it on what was probably 88 octane but it was able to ping at low speed (going slow in 3rd around a corner) so I just stay with 91.
