Cam Retainer Plate for pre-'99 block?

Post by jeepxj3 »

Can the cam retainer plate be retrofitted to a pre-'99 block that didn't come with one?

I thought I saw a pic of a pre-'99 block and it looked like it had the mounting area for the retainer plate but no holes for the bolts to hold the cam retainer plate in place.

Has any one done this?
Thanks.

What is needed are the "ears" off the sides of the cam gear mating surface on the block. Seen here in the pic

That is what the cam plate attaches to. They don't need to be drilled and tapped and there are some blocks that have the ears but no drilling and tapping. That would be a pretty simple operation for a machine shop.

Do all pre-'99 blocks have the "ears" off the sides of the cam gear mating surface on the block?

My 98 block does not have the ears.

Cheers
