Re: 99+ Timing Chain
Nice double roller set but it is for early blocks, 1964-1998 AMC/Jeep 6 cylinder engines and not for the '99+.Cheromaniac wrote:Cloyes 9-3127 dual roller FTW.
The correct PN for '99+ is Cloyes C3225. This is for the set- crank and cam sprockets and chain
Thanks, Cloyes it is.
Ordered from RockAuto $82.16 shipped.

Re: 99+ Timing Chain
Timing chain and gear choice for a 99-up depends on what cam you use. Cam/timing gear needs to be matched to the cam, not the block.
Most aftermarket cams will not work with the later cam retention plate and that style of cam/timing gear.
For my 2001, I also went with the 99-up Cloyes set, but later had to buy the correct early cam/timing gear after I decided to use a non-stock cam (Crower).

Re: 99+ Timing Chain
There aren't many cams available for the 99+ cam w/ retaining plate. If you want something other than the usual earlier cam you will need to find a cam grinder that will work with you.

Re: 99+ Timing Chain
So what ya'll are saying is that if you run any cam but stock in a 99+, then you'll need to use a pre 99 cam bolt and button? I'm guessing the timing covers are the same. What about removing the rubber chain tensioner?

Re: 99+ Timing Chain
Jones Cams makes one that works with the retaining plate style. The chain snubber is up to you. Its on the tension side of the chain when it should be on the slack side. Also, some timing set need it and its mount removed.
