Re: My 4.6 Project engine
Moparts connection can only get me 10 5249464 valve springs. So I need to find 2 more springs.

Do you need locks or Spring retainers?

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
I finally have all 12 of my Mopar Performance #464 valve springs. Thanks to Moparts Connection! and this forum...JeepMan! I really feel they are the right springs for my application (Comp Cams 235 grind) and I am glad that i was able to find 12 of them. After checking each one for proper rate I installed them along with new retainers using the OE locks on OE valves. Does anyone see a problem with me using OE locks? They all appear to be in great shape and they are holding the valves in place well. I bet I have close to 40 hours into this head and it looks good to me. I am excited to mount in to my short block however, my block is still in the mech shop. It is being decked .025. This should be the last expensive step to my build. It will bring my quench down between .050 and .060 and my C/R to around 9.6:1 at 5,500 feet in Denver.

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
I just got my block back after taking .025 off of the Deck. It was also acid dipped and Jet washed so It should be ready for assembly. I am very excited to have all of the expensive machine work behind me. Now I can concentrate on assembly. I started with a fresh coat of paint. Here is where I noticed a problem. The locating dowels for the head from the block deck are missing, they must have been removed to deck the block...of course they were. But where do I find new ones?

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
First I would contact the machine shop and see what they did with them. They should have either reinstalled them or given them back to you.
Next step is new ones. My parts cat lists them as #0141215; .312 x .500

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
Got the dowels back in the block. And I just ordered everything else I need to put this thing together to include the comp 235 grind including the cam lifters and timing set. I will have to wait on a few things like bigger injectors, exhaust, and TB but it should be running within a few weeks. I spent around 2000 USD before tuning....which i anticipate being another 2000.

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
My bottom end is all put together. And I managed to not break any rings. It spins freely and evenly. ... but I'm a little less than satisfied with my deck height. I'm still looking at .015 clearance. I'll have to put some real thought in to weather or not I want to take more off to tighten my quench.

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
Well The mech shop wanted 400 bucks to assemble the short block in order for them to measure deck height. So I did the assembly my self saving the 400. I then measured clearance at .028 average. Then I brought it back to the mech shop and told them to deck it .025 leaving room for stretch and expansion. Now I have it back and assembled and I still measure about .015 clearance. Which at 5500 feet in Denver puts my DCR down below 8:1. Imo this is too much clearance and I will have to take it back and have it decked another .010. What do you guys think? How much do i need to leave for stretch?

Re: My 4.6 Project engine
I'll take responsibility for that. It looks like it's back to the mech shop for more decking.
