Re: Mud racing with a stroker?
Were doing great so far this year with 4 wins, 3 seconds and a third. I changed the jeep alot and now were running 410's, 36in buckshots and she's neutral dropping the old asian at 3500 rpm's into second gear. We won the street class saturday and the truck to beat was a 525 ci big block truck she beat him by a tenth. Now that was in the mud were the tracks are folding in on themselves, were still getting beat when the tracks are dry by my buddy in a bone stock xj with 35's and 355 gear. When it was muddy she beat him by a second but as the track dryed out he just kept getting faster and we stayed the same no matter what the track condition. The sand drags are this weekend so I'm gonna take a bone stock (200,000 mile ) xj on 245/16 radials and I'm gonna see if my suspicions are right that if the traction is there the stroker crank hurts us instead of helps us. Don't get me wrong, in the mud were it sucking the tires in I think the stroker is key but in 2 dry ruts or in the sand drags I think open diffs and the engineers at chrystler got it right..
We'll find out Saturday.

Re: Mud racing with a stroker?
im def more of a street guy, so if im wrong someone should chime in...Ive done a little mud racing and if you have a stroker, you should be able to run in 4hi? especially when its dry out. maybe thats where the 'stock' guys are getting you? im just running a 4.0 and 235/75/15s, (Pure street class) and its got plenty of power to run in 4hi in 1st. if its dry or if I get away with running spray then hold on when I shift into 2nd.
But hey maybe Im way off, we only run deeper 150' pits around here, and currently im still open/open. like I said not really a mud guy, just giving the little bit of insight I might have.

Re: Mud racing with a stroker?
Old post but were in the middle of racing season again., I built her a new motor and a new truck during the winter. She's running a 88 mj with 4.6., 36in buckshots and 373 gears. Welded in rear and a auburn E locker in the front for the deep stuff. Were first in the points series in Street Stock with alot of SBC chevy's.
Her new motor
4.6 stroker
505 performance 202 head
538 solid lift cam
bullit rollers
99 intake
24lbs mustang inj
Gibson header with custom collector and 3in exhaust
68mm Dakota throttle body
I NOW know about the problems with 505 and I can't get any tech help at all so I'd like to know what you guy's think about porting the intake. I have to take it down this week for exhaust work and was wondering if porting the intake runners would help at all or do you think it's getting plenty of air. The runners are more than an inch square (so that makes over 6in) and my throttle body is slightly under 3 so I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. Remember this truck runs at WOT only in 150 ft pits. Thanks alot.
Here's a link to a race she ran last weekend hope it works.

Re: Mud racing with a stroker?
Port matching might help a bit. But never go larger on the runners than the head port. The problem is if you are running a 99+ intake you won't be able to go all the way through. In previous manifolds it is possible, but some long burs/mandrels will be needed.
