Header style/choose pacesetter vs banks revolver

Post by Defcon92 »

I've got a couple questions. I've got a ceramic coated (swaintech) pacesetter sitting here, as well a banks 6-1 revolver also ceramic coated (banks coating?) whoever banks uses for their coatings idk. I know for sure the banks fits with my 99+ intake! does anyone know if the pacesetter will fit?
I have to redo the downpipe to 2.5" with my banks anyway and the pacesetter has a downpipe although I'd remake it with 2.5" also.. I do know pacesetter has fitment issues with the driveshaft so I'd remake it either way.

I'm seeing this debate as longer tube tri-y design of pacesetter Vs the shorter 6-1 banks revolver style which ends up boosting power at 3500+ rpm. I felt a decrease in power...at least felt that way at around 2000rpm when I installed the banks. The pacesetter sound produce more USEABLE gains in the 2000-5000rpm range I'd think just be design? The banks may peak higher but peaks don't produce a fast, toques car! The banks also changed the exhaust note to a more exotic type sound. I've always said like the sound change from a y/h pipe to a x pipe, because its 6-1 design.

Now this is going on my 4.2l stroker daily driver. I can use either or...so what's your guys opinion?
I did have a ceramic doug thorley but after speaking to them at DT I realized quickly everyone seem to have a snotty attitude going and I sold it before I ever ran it...hence when I got the banks:) the pacesetter was a x-mas gift I had coated and tossed in storage when we moved and forgot all about

Pacesetter has had a longevity issue, maybe the ceramic coating will let them last longer.
IIRC the pacesetter are mild steel and the Banks are SS.

Pacesetter has a quality issue all around. Waste of a good coating.

Have you ever looked at Thorley HDX-634Y header? It's reputedly excellent.

13G 304 stainless

1 5/8" diam primaries, 2.5" diam collector.

1/2" thick mounting flanges

Tri-Y design, reputedly well tuned for scavenging and performance across widest possible rpm range.

Polished Sterling Silver Ceramic looks beautiful.

Nick at Kolak quoted me a price of $519 incl shipping.

I think the Banks are 409 SS, which is not as good as 304 SS.

Borla and Thorley HDX are made of 304 SS. Thorley HDX made of 13G (heaviest guage) 304 SS. Borla made of 16G 304 SS (I think I recall).

Had a brand new thorley I sold it on here I believe, ceramic coated and all that jazz but I called them up asking for a few stickers and got a snobby attitude about it. Ive already read numerous time about their attitudes. Even upon original purchase I spoke to em and the answers I was given seemed more like getting me off the phone then genuine support/tech type answers. Turned around sold the header and bought my banks & loving it ever since. Customer support pays greatly.

Who's does banks ceramic coating? My thorley looked identical and the banks has dulled everywhere except the flange and first 1" of primary or so, which is expect but no chipping or cracking in the coating. I'm really hoping it'll withstand my cam break in as well.

Thorley tech supp is frustrating. I can verify that from attempting to ask them for info.

The product itself seems excellent, though I haven't installed it yet.
