Has anyone successfully used the Crane Cams Valve Spring (#96803) & Retainers (#99948-12) with the Camshaft (#753905)?
My machine shop is telling me that the Spring & Retainers are the wrong part, but the replacement part he reccomends is no longer made by Crane. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

I'm sure they can find a similar spring from some one else. I would go with what ever spring they recommend.

Re: Crane Springs & Retainers
You need to find a spring that will work with the stock retainers and keepers. The stock retainers and keepers are 8 degree. The stock valve keepers have a round lock that fits in the round groove in the valve. Also, the stock valve tip length is short and the stock round lock is located higher on the keeper...if this makes sense.
I would use the mopar performance 5249464 spring with the mopar performance 4452032 retainer, and mopar performance 4529218 keeper. The cheepest place I have found the P5249464 springs is on advanceautoparts.com $6.99 a piece. See thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=343 on how to order from advance auto parts. I don't know how much the retainers cost. I have seen the keepers for $11.95.
If anyone else has found an aftermarket retainer/keeper(or lock)combo that will work with the stock valves, please chime in. I am curious to know what works.

Re: Crane Springs & Retainers
That's the combo I had on my stroker together with the Crane 753905 cam for the first 34k miles until two lifters and one cam lobe bit the dust. Put the original stock items back in and haven't looked back since (stroker now has 49k miles under its belt).dwg86 wrote:I would use the mopar performance 5249464 spring with the mopar performance 4452032 retainer, and mopar performance 4529218 keeper.
