Either piston will work. The difference is the ring size. Get the ring set for the pistons you get.

I believe he means some rings come with standard sizes & others use metric size rings. I oped for the "moly" total seal rings? Guess they seat better/quicker & total seal I guess was full circle? So it had less blow by?

Re: buying pistons and lost! please help.
Any pistons will work in any year block.
It's just the thickness of some of the the rings on the piston changed in 96.
So just order rings for whatever year piston you get.

Standard vs. Metric rings. If you look at the piston specs you will see what the piston takes.

Re: buying pistons and lost! please help.
You aren't buying factory pistons. Pick the over size, pick the alloy, pick the ring pack, pick the manufacturer, buy pistons.

What do you want? You can get cast for as low as $100, hypo for $200 and I got forged for $400.manche89 wrote:well on ebay they have the over sized for the differnt year. anyways can anyone point me in a good direction for 30 overs. i know you get what you pay for but this is kinda a buget build and dont wanna spend 600 bucks on a set.

I went with 677s on accident in my 4.2l stroker. I wanted the 2229s but told my builder 677s on accident. The Difference was a .004 lower pin height but 2cc less dish. I lost about 1/2 a point of compression...no biggy.
I'm hoping to add in a m62 super charger kit soon so that little bit lower compression was actually helpful. I'm at 9.2:1 & 8.0:1 dynamic.
