Quick question: 1990 renix stroker - does it work
I talked with Clegg Engine today about doing a stroker on my 1990 Renix-equipped Cherokee. (I will be using a 1994 donor block and head - retaining my Renix F.I., intake & exhaust manifolds, distributor, flex plate, etc.). He said that stroker motors using the Renix system have not been very successful. Does anyone know if it will work or not? Is there anything I can do to make it work well? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

He said that stroker motors using the Renix system have not been very successful. Does anyone know if it will work or not? Is there anything I can do to make it work well besides swapping out the Renix system? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

There are many Renix Jeeps running stroker engines. No problem at all.

You buy it from split second, if you want the also have one with a built in map sensor, and one that will change timing, and 02 sensor modifiers/voltage clamps, but you need some basice electronic/wiring skills

I don't know why they said that... but its not good \ reliable information.
There is no difference in reliability for any Stroker engine you build regardless of year range.

It seems that your plan is to build an HO stroker long block and use the Renix accessories/electronics. Nothing wrong with that. If your state doesn't require all the smog equipment for visual inspection by the Gestapo, you could use a '99+ curved runner intake manifold and delete the EGR system. You could also use a HO TB and modify your Renix TPS to fit (or make an adapter).
If you choose to retain the Renix intake manifold, you'll need to do some mild fettling to make it sit higher on the head for the ports to line up.
As far as the Renix electronics go, you can leave them untouched for the time being. Just add a set of blue top Ford 24lb injectors (either Cobra 5.0 or Ford Racing, cheap used in ebay) and run the engine for a while to determine if you'll need to enlean or enrich it. If it becomes necessary, a MAP adjuster will do that for you.

It wasn't a reliability issue, but a customer could not get his Renix-equipped stroker to run well. I just want to make sure that it was maybe an isolated incident and not the norm...Muad'Dib wrote:I don't know why they said that... but its not good \ reliable information.

Just an example, my 4.6 Had 24lb ford racing ev1 injectors first, it ran solo rich when I started it it barely ran.but I opened the throttle screw a little and put a resistor on my coolant sensor. Then I ordered my split second signal modifier(computer map adjuster), runs great now.

Regardless, it sounds like whoever was building the motor either didn't do it right or had other issues. He was saying that the customer could not get it to run right. It sounded like it might be a fuel delivery problem - that perhaps the Renix could not adjust itself correctly, even though the customer changed the injectors. After doing some searching though, I have a feeling that you're right and the customer had other issues. It seems that the consensus is that a stroker Renix motor can be made to work well - either with different injectors and/or using a Split Second signal modifier.Muad'Dib wrote:So which is it?
