Ok, I built this engine for my 83 FSJ cherokee but found a 1999 Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 that threw a rod. I have yet to start my engine. I have added the 1999 intake from a junk yard, ford 23lb injectors and the larger ford throttle body. Used the crank and rods from a 4.2, and bored out the engine .30 Using the stock cam from the 4.0.
What would I need to do to get the 4.6 running in the Grand Cherokee? Would the ecm "relearn" the new engine? Would I still need the adj MAP sensor and wide band O2 sensor?
thanks for any info.

A lot depends on what cam you use. For an otherwise stock PCM keep the cam fairly non-aggressive. Selecting the correct size fuel injectors also helps the PCM out with dealing with the larger displacement.
What engine block are you using?

its a 91/92 block. I still have the injectors that came with the rounded intake if that would help

Sounds like your engine's good to go into your '99 WJ. Your injectors may be a bit small though but leave them for now and see how the engine runs. The only issue I see is that your AC & alternator mounting brackets may not fit onto the 91/92 block.

The 91/92 block will not work that well in the WJ. The engine mounts and accessory mounts are different. There would need to be some fabrication and accessory relocation to make it work.

I thought as much. They'll do fine.Zorm wrote:actually, the they are ford 24lb, not 23lb.
The main issue will be, as Chris said, the engine and accessory mounts possibly being incompatible but every problem has its solution.
