Hey guys,
Awhile back I was planning a 4.6 stroker for my ZJ. Unfortunately, a few issues cropped up with that Jeep that made it unworthy of the investment. However, a friend of mine recently decided the stock 4.0 in his 2000 XJ wasn't cutting it, so here we go again!
The bottom end was dropped off at the machine shop yesterday. Here's a quick rundown of the work being done and the parts going into the motor:
1995 casting dipped, fluxed, blasted, and decked
bored .60 over
ICON IC944 Forged Pistons w/molly rings
Align Honed
4.0 rods deburred, shot peen'ed, and resized for ARP rod bolts
Stock 4.2 short nosed crank (polished)
Balanced rotating assembly
Comp Cams SK68-235-4 Cam, lifter, and timing set
Head:
1993 casting reconditioned
Gasket matched ports
Stock intake valves
Stainless steel, stock sized exhaust valves
Hughes 1110 valve springs and retainers with the spring pockets cut for the correct seat pressures
Basically, the build is happening in two stages, with the turbo coming later down the line. Keeping this in mind, I tried to take precautions by keeping the compression as close to 9:1 as possible, going with the ARP rod bolts, forged pistons, and stainless steel exhaust valves Any suggestions will be more than welcomed regarding our build formula.
Hopefully we will have the short block and head back from the machine shop within a couple of weeks, so next on the list is how we're going to fuel this engine. I did quite a bit of searching on injectors and tuning options, with results that were startlingly conflicting, to say the least.
His XJ uses the newer USCAR connector and a 49 PSI rail. I've read the Neon 784 injectors are a good option, as well as a handful of others. In a perfect world, I would like to buy injectors once that will sufficiently fuel the engine with and without boost, but I realize this isn't a perfect world and we may be buying injectors twice. Any suggestions here?
Tuning is my other main concern. The last thing we want to do is have our A/F ratios all over the place and burn the new engine up.
Thanks!

Re: 4.7 Turbo Stroker Build, Few questions
I just had my 99 4.0 block sonic checked on all 6 holes after the failure of my .060 505 pistons. The bores are so thin in some spots he said it would not have lasted long at all with boost even at .060. Spend the 100 bucks do the sonic test as you might be better off with a stock bore or .020/.030 vs .060 etc.
Just got my news today so I have to source another block.
