Holy smokes 430.00$ for a dang crank new or not that's pretty darn pricey ,as silver asked I'm curious what the op meant clearance issues???, only thing I can think is the snout? If these suckers are really selling for 4-500$ maybe I should start sourcing and selling them, hell ill sell mine for 428.99

There is a guy on craigslist in Indianapolis Indiana parting out a 1979 cj w/258 so it should be a 12 weight crank might be worth looking into but depending on your location shipping may be rediculous#317-673-9359 worth checking into

I already had one shipped from Alabama and it cost $80 and is in rough shape, local deals from here on out! Haha, potential 1972 block waiting for me for $200

I'm with you on dealing locally! Have you had the shop confirm its as bad as it may look? Mine looked pretty bad and the previous owner had spun a bearing but 85$ later and a 10/10 grind at the shop and I got a perfectly good crank (185.00$) total! My point is I was worried about mine too because it looked kinda bad hell it was 20 years old but a little love from the crank grinder and I was good to go ,if your already invested in the one I'd at least have the machinist check it for you most the time that's free!

I got my scat crank from Cleggs Engines. They were fast and great to work with. Reasonable price too.

What year/make vehicle engine did you search for to find the correct crank?

Thanks,
Scott

Just tried to go the simple auto parts way...good news / moderate news Advance sells a reman crank with mains and rod bearings for about 210. Their part number is 25120 you will EITHER get the 12cw 3214723 OR the 4cw 3235477 both with the long snout. I actually talked to the crankshaft rebuilders tech help and they DO NOT label the box with which casting is inside so its a crapshoot. Order a crank for a 1972 Jeep CJ5 ....if you want the 4cw short snout order the crank for a 1989 wrangler..about 180 plus core charge for both...I will call back the crank people tomorrow to see if I can find what the average undercut is for the bearings..I don't want a .30 or .40 cut

Just payed 50.00 bucks for mine. Craigslist. And the guy gave me an entire 258 out of a 88 YJ to go with it.
Now all I have to do is pull it out and take it in to be ground. I think I'll stick with the stock 4.0 rods and go with Keith Black pistons.
