I'm trying to get a feel for what I need to have some tuning done on my stroker. Last time I just went to the dyno and hooked up to their computer for 3 runs and sent that information to the tuner. But I know that only gave him WOT data, and without shelling out another $100, I had no way to confirm that his tune was working well.
So my question is, what exactly is needed to capture the AFR and data that a programmer needs? It seems like most of the "kits" are a sensor and a dash gauge. I personally don't care for having a AFR gauge permanently mounted on the dash. All I'm really looking for is a way to capture the data and sent it to a tuner (and the less expensive the better). I'm not chasing every last HP or ft/lb from the engine, but I would like to make sure the injectors are properly sized and everything is running as well as possible with the mods.

You need a wideband with data logging capabilities that also has input for other sources like the MAP sensor and TPS sensor. I would ask the tuner what he recommends.

Re: School me on Wideband AFR
I grabbed an Innovate MTX-L and got it hooked up. AFR stays right at or around 14.7 under normal driving. At WOT it drops clost to 11ish around the 1/2 and 2/3 shift points (even saw a split second 10.X) then stays pretty steady in the low 12's until I let off. That means its getting plenty of fuel (injectors are ok size) and its running a tad to a lot rich at WOT correct?

yes, 11 to 10 is a bit rich. You want it around 12.5-13 or so. However, when you see these numbers is it as the transmission shifts or prior to a shift? A bit rich on the shift is normal. Your injectors appear to be a good size for your engine. Which ones are you using?

Re: School me on Wideband AFR
Still using the stock injectors. I'll have to test it a little more tomorrow to try and pin point the exact point it drops to its lowest AFR, but it seemed like 1st and 2nd gear stayed in the 11's and it got up into low 12's after shifting into 3rd.
