Ripped off by 505 Performance. Bad Review.

Post by CandyCaneXj » December 18th, 2013, 12:18 am

I'm posting this to let everyone know my experience with 505 performance. It was not a good one. It started back in september. First I bought the 4.0 race head. three weeks later no tracking number or shipping updates. So i called him. Zach said it should be shipped any day. Ok no problem after all this made as ordered stuff takes time. Got the head about a week later. Ok looks good. So I buy the 4.9 stroker kit in the beginning of october. two and a half weeks later I get the box with the pistons, rods, bearings and som other small stuff. nother week goes by. nothing. So I call again. answering machine full but he called me right back saying "I just happen to be getting the rest of your things together now." So we get to talking and I decide to buy the rocker arms for $440. He said they were 1.62 ratio. So he sends me a bill through paypal which i paid right away. A few days later I get my crankshaft, gaskets, camshaft, injectors, and a few other things. All i didnt receive yet was the timing set. And rocker arms obviously. So about another week later I get the timing set by itself. So ok cool I figured. So after that I lost track of time with cetain things going on in my life I happen to realize i never got the rocker arms a few days ago. So i emailed him. He emails back saying I had them shipped weeks ago and gives me the tracking number. Shows it coming in a 5 lb 10x7x3 package way back on oct 29. Funny thats the same day and size box my timing set came in. 5 lbs sounds about right too. So i let him know what I believed the confusion was. Didnt hear back from him. My opinion is he should not have a business. It is not right to have to babysit and constanly call about what is going on with my orders. So in all he has $440 I cant get back which he most likely is not giving back. and my paypal says the part was delivered when you look under that bill. Yea the timing set was delivered. I really do not know if the timing set tracking number was attached to the rocker arm bill intentionally or not.... Like really how hard is it to send shipping updates with every item the day you ship them. We pay good money for these parts. Good luck if you do business with him. I know I would not recommend him to anyone.

This story has a familiar ring to it. Sorry to read of your mis-fortunes.

Frankly I would not trust 505 to watch my cat. This I learned early on via the power of the internet.

I`d post this over on Pirate in the bad sellers forum or CC. But before I did I`d call 505 one more time and let them know of your intentions if they do not square up.

I can understand your frustration but Zach did ship all the other parts as promised.
A set of rocker arms (5lb) plus a timing set (4lb) in the same box (1lb with packing material) would weigh about 10lb and since your box weighed only five, it's likely that the person who packed that box forgot to put the rocker arms in it. If you contact Zach and give him that information, hopefully he'll make things right for you.

Good point, and there is evidence to support that.(shipping label)
Would the timing set AND rockers fit in a 10x7x3 box? What size box would the rockers come in? Still have the timing set box?

I do not know the size of the box the rockers would come in. This is the timing set. 6.5x9.5x1.75. The shipping box would have made it around 7x10x3. And it does weigh around 4.8 pounds. Why he shipped it separate i have no idea. still didnt hear back from him either. Calling him is like hoping someone answers a payphone.

If you are talking about 505's purple rockers, they are different colored Harland Sharp Rockers. From Harland Sharp this is how they are packaged, and I doubt they would change the packaging:

Image

Take notice of the blue scale above it. That is 7". The edges of the package to fold in, but that is over a foot. Also, that is a valve cover spacer for scale compare. Not going to fit in a 10" box.

505 is a joke. They are trying to play at the same level as Hesco, but they can't. I have heard of only one happy person with their service out of many bad ones. Their pre sales support is crappy as well. I have seen one of their ported "race heads" and I hope yours looks better than the one I saw.

If you do want a set of Harland Sharp rockers I have a post on here with someone that has a very good price on them.

If Zach doesn't make things right it won't take long for his reputation to go down the toilet (if it hasn't already) and 505 Performance to eventually shut down. Others have also come and gone (Accurate Power, Jakes Racing Engines) but Hesco still thrive because they look after their customers.

Honestly I don't know what the apeal of the stroker kit is. I pieced mine together and had the machine work done on a one to two week turn around each time. Never had shipping problems from summit or crower, or split second.apparently 505 is hell bent on ruining their own reputation

File a claim with PayPal, ask for a refund of the cost of the rockers.
505 will have to prove they sent them.

Could not file a claim with paypal because it was over 45 days since the purchase date. Which was partially my fault yes. UPDATE! talked with zach on the phone. It appears that because i did the stroker kit order online and the rockerarm purchase and stroker shipping over the phone the orders went together and thus timing set was shipped as rocker arms. He was very helpful over the phone and did appologize. should be getting the rockers in a week or two :) we shall see.

Big surprize.Zac talks a good game when youre spending money. His kits he advertises on ebay and his website took 6 months to get.Header came in wrong and i had to pay to send it back.Waterpump was wrong, timing chain was a cheap piece of crap.He said sometimes it takes a couple before i get a tight one.Really?Sent me a head with no hole for the idler pulley and the excuse was this is a project?Had to send 3 sets of rods back before i got a good set.Changed the specs on my cam without asking. So buy from him if you want but beware!!!!!!!!

Don't give up. Record your telephone calls to him if you can.... and then get back to Paypal with the evidence.
And contact Paypal about a refund. If parts weren't shipped, they might give you a refund regardless of the payment date. Worth a try.

This sounds identical to my misfortune about 18 months ago with the same proprietor.

Pistons/rods were shipped in a box loose so the big ends of the rods had literally smashed the pistons into knurled scrap metal by the time they arrived.

The cam/lifters showed up 4 months after they were ordered, apparently nitriding is done on the moon during certain solar alignments.

My original cylinder head I shipped out to them for porting was "lost" for over 2 months then finally "found" and sent to me 6 months after the original ship date. Guess what... it was NOT my same head that I ended up getting back but a completely different casting/brand from what I shipped out and showed up with one corner smashed so bad it also had to be checked for cracks and resurfaced. When I did get the head back I had to get it all redone here in Austin. So once that was checked for cracks etc I had it re-ported and properly done vs the monkey with a die grinder and no 2 ports the same crap that came from 505. Also cam was shipped without spec card and the head porting came without the promised flow bench sheet.

DAMNED SURE do not use any of the "tuning" provided by 505/PEI unless you want the worst running engine ever PEI might be able to tune other products but should stay far away from JTEC's.\

The second set of pistons/rods were shipped out which arrived in OK condition a month later, however upon assembly we went to remove the #6 rod cap and found the ARP bolt was stripped into the rod even though it was not tightened down NOTHING would remove it. Thus that rod had to be sent back the entire engine pulled back apart (after 5 pistons/rods were fitted) so the whole damned assembly could be re-balanced to match the new rod shipped from another set. Of course we were assured the new rod would be matched in weight, hahah not even close.

So after 8 months and spending nearly 2x what it should have cost to get it running... It locks up the oil pump, breaks the drive rod off and we find the culprit to be a nasty piston to wall issue on #6 (mild damage on the rest). We called Race-Tec (builds 505's forged pistons) and asked what they thought. Come to find out .0055 is about double what you want and will cause the EXACT failure we had. Guys at Race-Tec are great. I am now sonic-testing the block and possibly going to have to replace it as well as the pistons. When it comes to specifications for machine work or installation, completely IGNORE any spec he gives you in e-mail or over the phone!! Find out who manufactured the parts and call them directly. I have an e-mail from Zack stating to have my engine bored .060 then final honed to +.0055 piston to wall clearance for use with the Race-Tec pistons he resells.

I would not even buy a spark plug from them again.
