Hi folks,

I have the opportunity to buy an Avenger supercharger kit which suits the 4.0L for $2000. It's relatively local to me (probably an hour drive from my house).

Full kit including
injectors
Intercooler
assorted pulleys
coolant pump
Hoses, lines etc.

I'm seriously considering it to perhaps put on top of the stroker or maybe build up a new stroker from fresh. It's not everyday a kit like this becomes available at such a price in this part of the world. Could i please have your input and opinion on these superchargers? I'm curious as to whether they can be 'switched on/off' and if they are a relatively efficient design or are an older technology. My stroker is running a 9.7:1 compression with the 68-231-4 Comp Cam with 40 thou overbore.

FYI also, recently a Perth based supercharger developer called Sprintex released one for the 4.0L - http://www.sprintex.com.au/sprintex/sup ... _cherokee/. Buy price = $4000 + tax.

You can't really switch it on or off. The rotors will always be turning when the engine is. Whether or not its pushing air into the engine is controlled by the bypass valve, which opens when there is vacuum, bypassing the supercharger. As for what will happen if you put it on your stroker I am unsure. Its higher than stock compression and depending on how much boost it will be pushing it could cause detonation.

I saw the Sprintex unit. Looks nice. And its small. Too bad its being distributed by Rick Rimmer in the US.

Also, I don't see it in the pic nor listed in what is included, but there is a specific intake manifold that is needed for that to work.

Yes you're right about the intake manifold - i'm not sure if it comes with it but i'd make sure it does or they're still available from avenger if i end up with it.

Rick Rimmer? Company or person? You can't buy direct from Aus?

Be prepared to open a whole can of worms with this install. You will definitely have to have it tuned by a tuner on a dyno$$. Will run hotter and maybe the radiator will have to be changed. Detonation will be your worst problem and you need to think about what kind of black box you are going to run with. Gas mileage will go to hell and premium gas will be a must. You will need to have a air/fuel gauge on board to watch also. Great project for the brave good luck. I have one and it is a kick in the but...

gas mileage shouldn't change that much as long as you stay out of the boost.....but then again what's the point in the supercharger then

I understand these things are always a technical operation. I was more interested in if it was a decent unit, going for a decent price to snap up and shelve for when the day comes that i build up my second stroker and turn it into a bit of a supercharged animal for a comp or play rig.

So as I am scouring the web trying to find the formula's and experience to figure out the right build from scratch here.

eaton m90 generation III
will be run with intercooler
clifford performance headers
scat 3.895" 9000 series crankshaft
scat rods

a few questions regarding boost and build.

running lower stock SCR in order to maintain 14.696(stoich/barometric) + psi boost i.e.

8:8 SCR + 10 psi boost = 12:8

Seems like that pretty much puts me running about 100-105 octane guessing = not a daily driver.

What should I be considering here with the Static CR and being able to run 10-16 lbs of boost?
Or should I consider more the factor of Static CR being higher and running less boost?

block can and will be completely redone - block tanked, deck, bored, honed, balanced, (ARP bolts main/head)
custom camshaft turned
cylinder head new rods, roller rockers, springs, seats, enlarged valves (2" intake, 1.6 exhaust minimum)

what's this block+head's maximum compression ability

there is more but this hopefully will open up the can...

Person, hack. And Sprintex isn't selling the XJ kit anymore.

Might be able to get away on pump gas with a good tune. Plus you will have an intercooler. I'm planning for 6psi on mine. You also have to consider 8.8 is the static. Your dynamic will be lower.
