valve springs

Having trouble finding a stiffer valve spring to swap to. i know lots of people are using the mopar performance #5249464 spring but then you have to buy retainers and locks also and it gets kinda pricey. Is there a stiffer spring anyone knows to use that you can reuse factory retainer and locks and doesnt involve machine work on the head? thanks.

The Mopar ones are the only ones I know of that drop in.

i used lunati springs for a 4.6 ford....let me see if i can find the part number they were $120 for the set i think

Going off Lunati's catalog, https://www.lunatipower.com/PDF/Lunati-Catalog-2013.pdf page 292, it looks like the 74833 or 74814 may fit.

Going through his thread he used the 74814 springs and Hemi retainers. http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... f=8&t=2390

However, it also looks like the head did need some work.

had to cut the valve spring guides down as well as use a different seal because stock seals didn't clear the springs so had to cut down the post for the seals

ya it was an extra $130 for the head work and the machinist never did give me the part number for the new seals. but there aren't any conflicts with the valve cover so i didn't need the spacer other folks needed


that's also the spring lunati suggested since i was also using their cam. they may not work for your cam so talk to the manufacturer

Indeed and although they may seem pricey, you can at least avoid monkeying around machining the spring seats and performing additional mods that may be required to use other springs (with associated costs).

The spacer is actually for adjustable roller rockers. Even with the spacer the valves could hit the cover.

I'm not sure why people are so afraid of machine work on the head. You will probably need some form of work on the head anyhow and the valve seal seat may need to be moved depending on your cam lift.

thanks for the input guys. through summit the mopar springs and all are just under $300. seems like getting the comp cam springs for $65 and having the machine work done id come out alot cheaper. im not sure how much the machine work is but if its 100-150 itd be worth it to go that route?

I'd got for the beehive Ford springs myself. Better harmonics control.
