I have stock 4L in a 99 XJ.
I want to replace the 0630 head with a 7120 head. I also want to install JBA headers.
Where is the best place to but a new 7120 head?
Is it possible to buy a new ported and polished 7120 head?
This is not going to be a stroker. I don't want a stroker.
I just want to have a better head, Mopar performance head gasket, JBA headers, cat back exhaust, higher flowing cat, real cold air intake, ported intake manifold, 62mm throttle body, electric fans, and 205F thermostat. I might also have intake manifold ceramic coated. The goal being 30 more HP, and increased HP and torque from 2800 rpm to 5000 rpm with no loss of HP or torque at lower rpms. Also, I'm looking to gain a few mpg.
The problem is, I have no idea where to buy a new 7120 head, and no idea if I can buy a new head already ported, or at least polished.
Where is best place to buy a new 7120 head?

Swapping from a 0630 to a 7120 Will gain you nothing.

By itself, no, but wouldn't it help in conjunction with those other mods I mentioned in OP?SilverXJ wrote:Swapping from a 0630 to a 7120 Will gain you nothing.

Unless its ported, no. The 7120 has no advantage over the 0630 head. There are about equal in terms of performance.

Why is 7120 more popular than 0630?

Re: Where is best place to buy a new 7120 head?
The 7120 is more plentiful than the 0630 because they are on older more tired/wrecked Jeeps, contrary to popular belief the 7120 is not a direct bolt on in place of the 0630, they have no holes for the cylinder head dowls, I picked up a 7120 for my Jeep off of Craigs List for $40, I've since found a 0630 that I will use on my stroker, I gave $20 for it at a swap meet.
For those kinds of deals you can get one and have it rebuilt and do the swap on a Saturday.
