Well new guy building a stroker

Post by 99OHXJ »

Alright so i'm new to the whole jeep 4.0 stroker. I currently have a 99 4.0 i'm going to do this to.

So far i've gathered-

Sealed power .30 pistons and rings for a 4.0 from summit
79 amc 4.2 with the 12 weight crank and rods
Ngk plugs
Summit 8mm wires
Ac delete pulley
I have neon injectors but have a feeling they wont push enough fuel
Edge throttle body
Edge trail jammer tuner but i'm going to sell it as id love to get a aem wideband- already was on jeep
Afe intake- already was on jeep
Banks header- already was on jeep
Mopar high volume oil pump

Think thats it for now?

Id like some opinions on parts to gather, and advice on what to do? i've heard of ls1 valves being put in.

Going for a daily driver with pep yet reliable.

Also does the 4.2 oil pan mount on a 4.0? The 4,2 i got has a nice oil pan with a skid id like to put on.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like you're well on your way. Take a look at my stroker "recipes" and see which one comes closest to your needs and budget.

Ditch that Edge programmer, these strokers need a real PCM tune to see their full potential. That 62mm TB ain't gonna be enough either.

Leigh Performance sell dished pistons, and there's a member here called Oleshot who'll also dish pistons for you.
A good timing set is the Cloyes dual roller CLO-9-3127.
For tuning, ditch the Edge Trailjammer and go to FlyinRyan.
The 62mm TB would be just about adequate for a poor man's stroker but more HP will demand a bigger TB.

Im already selling the edge.

And the throttle body will be fine till i got a new one

Alright well i went to summit the other day and got valve springs... But after reading i seen there too stiff?

They are the ones from comp cams. Would they work?

Also the 239-4 cam is that a good cam to run?

Won't work. They are for the 4.2L head and really stiff at that.

Hello all,
Not sure if it has been covered before but looking to find out what the piston dish volumes are or where I could find them for the H805, H825, and the 667CP(The part # is now 667AP on Summit Racingif it is a different piston)? I have aquired a 4 counterbalance weight 4.2l crank and rods and looking to go with the 9.25:1 compression 4.6L from Dino"s site, I live at 6,000 ft and think it should run ok on 85 octane? Also I am looking at installing a Comp Cams 68-232-4 camshaft, it has about the same duration just with higher lift, the specs for deck clearance are telling me that the quench height is actually futher away than the stock 4.0L so if that's the case then the valve clearance would be no issue. I have seen that the 68-115-4 says its not for fuel injection on the Comp Cams website?
Looking forward to the build.
Thanks for any input!

Well damn, guess i gotta return them. Ive seen most use the mopar performance ones. Yet summit says they cant find them in the book and i cant find em online. Also whats a good replacement valve for what im doing, same with locks and valve seals.

Still confused on what cam i need, jeep shits confusing

Well damn so much for trying to not spend crazy ammounts ahaha. Anyways ill get those once i get more money. What valves should i use? Also what cam, im going with the mopar timing kit.

Just need valvetrain, top end gasket set, and machine work and rod and main bearings, also cam and bearings.

It seems like such little but shits expensive

You could save about $600 by reusing the stock cam and just adding new lifters. That way you can also reuse the stock valve springs/retainers/locks/timing set. Otherwise you'd need to get the following items in addition to the valve springs/retainers/locks and your choice of CompCams cam:
